Question on Chest Growth

Post by tgw85 »

I've seen some pics of Arnold when he was really young (age:20), and in some of the pics/vids of him (age 20) the very bottom of his chest looks slightly thicker then compared to some pics/vids of him in his prime (age:27/28). Almost as if while his whole chest was growing, the very bottom grew as well but got thinner?

question is, AS YOUR VERY LOWER CHEST GROWS would it EVER start to physically get thinner? I don't mean atrophy, and I know the fibers don't "grow thinner". Once the muscle grows so big it starts to succumb to gravity, although slightly (like Branch Warren, Ronnie, or Arnold's chest). Well as it grows, it droops down more although slightly, again b/c gravity, and basically it looks like the chest gets longer as overall it gets bigger. As it starts to droop more, would it do it in such a way that the bottom becomes thinner and then keep getting thinner as it's growing and as this process continues?...Even though the fibers are still technically growing bigger?

For example, Ronnie Coleman (back in his prime)... if his chest were to keep growing... as it drooped down more, grant it slightly b/c of gravity, would it do it in such a way that the bottom gets thinner? OR would the bottom continue to get thicker and LOOK like it gets thicker?

Are you referring to the Pecs projecting out more, but then potentially you lose some Pec height?

Was that what you were saying, or did you mean do the Pecs end up looking like a flatttened dome shape?

What I mean is AS YOUR VERY LOWER CHEST GROWS would it EVER start to physically get thinner? I don't mean atrophy, or grow thnner. I mean as the muscle grows, it slides down slightly b/c of gravity, and basically looks like the chest gets longer. As it starts to droop more, would the bottom start to get thinner?... I see.

Well it would depend. Some people will get that long at the bottom look if they focus mainly on flat and Decline Bench with no inclines. As the muscle at the middle and bottom of the Pecs could be pulling ever so slightly on the top of the pecs, slightly distorting the appearance.

It won't happen when you just do flat only, or flat and inclines but no declines.

You can get an all round hit on the pecs, doing all three vasriations, but I don't see it as necessary. I'd say do the flat and the inclines and ignore the declines, although doing all three should yield an more overall thickening effect on the Pecs, but then you'd be taking too long working out I feel, so I'd still say the declines would be the ones to potentially sideline.

There's other things you can do instead for Chest, so it's no biggie to bin the declines.

Thanks man for replying, we're not exactly on the same page still so I'm gonna ask the same thing but in a different way... this will sound stupid but it's question, lol:
In this pic of Ronnie, if his lower chest (nipple line-down) were to grow bigger, would it get thicker?

Another way for me to ask: When Arnold's chest was it's overall biggest, I assume around the '74/'75 olympia (age 27/28), was his very bottom chest (nipple line-down) the most thick it has ever been?
