Hello everyone,
Joined on Sept. 30, 2010, however 1st day posting. I need to know what motivates you to get up and get moving (exercising). At one time I had the get up and get busy attitude but for some reason it vanished. I have invested in several in home DVD's such as ZUMBA, TURBO JAM, WALK AWAY THE POUNDS, TAE-BO, P90X, HIP HOP ABS, BIGGEST LOSER, DANCING WITH THE STARS and use to love getiing up to exercise. One reason is that I have been at a stand still since Jan. 2010 the scale don't seem to budge and if it does it's down 3-4 pounds then back up to 4-5. I know I am not doomed to be this size because I can still stand to lose more. highest weight is 296 pounds, since Nov. 24, 2008 I am down to 215. A total lost of 81 pounds and I am happy about that. However being 5'4' weighing 215 is still considered obese and I am not happy with that. Everything I try seems to fail. I attempt to eat 5-6 small meals a day, every 3 hours. I am beginning to get frustrated and that's not good. Yes I have come along ways but still have some ways to go. Even energy level is decreasing. Can anyone out there help me to get back to the fat burning process. metabolism has always been slow, you see how long it has taken me to lose 81 pounds. At the age of 41 is it to late to trigger metabolism into fat burning mode? By the way I still exercise even if I don't feel like it, I mak sure that I do at least 15-20 minutes of cardio 3 times a week and 3 days of 15-30 minutes of strength training.

Hi and welcome!
That is an awesome achievement! And you are actively thinking about your health now and reaching out for ideas and support to continue your weight loss - lots of folks don't get that far.
If you don't mind, list your current daily foods and times you eat them, then list what cardio and strength workouts you do and the days you do them. There are alot of folks here (more "in the know" than me) that can help you with eating the right foods, at the right times, with the right type of cardio/weight workouts.
Starting a journal of your foods in the Diet Journals forum can really help you stay accountable with your food, plus you can receive some great advice and tweaking on your foods from others. Same goes for your exercise - start a workout journal.
Hope this helps some! Good luck and stay after it! You can do it!
What motivates me is the feeling I get from exercise and knowing that combining it with smart food choices will eventually get me where i want to be. I think everyone goes through ups and downs in the motivation department. Especially if you have hit a plateau and things aren't happening like you want them to.cmygoals160 wrote:I need to know what motivates you to get up and get moving (exercising). Mine too, I know that it takes a very concentrated effort on both food and exercise to get the metabolism fires lit.cmygoals160 wrote: metabolism has always been slow
Absolutely not!! It may take a bit more effort than when you were 21 or even 31, but take it from me (I'm 48) it CAN be done. No one if perfect, don't be too hard on yourself. Self defeating thoughts are not going to help you. Look at the positives...you've lost 81 lbs.!!!cmygoals160 wrote:At the age of 41 is it to late to trigger metabolism into fat burning mode?

That's good, but maybe you could increase your cardio to 30 to 45 minutes?cmygoals160 wrote:By the way I still exercise even if I don't feel like it, I mak sure that I do at least 15-20 minutes of cardio 3 times a week and 3 days of 15-30 minutes of strength training.

You Can do it! It sounds like you can have the motivation to get moving again- considering you've already lost a lot of weight on your own! I know how frustrating it can be to not see numbers move. I got stuck at 193 for over a month despite intense workouts because I sent body into starvation mode by not eating enough calories for the activity I was doing. It's possible you might be restricting your calories too much, or you may as fitoverforty said, need some tweaking to your diet. BossMan can probably help you though.
I'm no where near goal, but I'm making progress, even if it is slow. In 2009 just after pregnancy, I was 228. I lost some of that thanks to breast-feeding but never went below 206 for a long time and I wasn't working out, just watching food intake through portion control. After journaling food intake and adding in exercise 3-5 times a week (30 mins to an hour of cardio at least 3 days and 2 days of an hour or more of weights, I'm down 20 more lbs... and down more than 12 inches. And I've also found a love for running that motivates me beyond weight loss. I work out because I love it... for the first time in largely sedentary life!
This community of people have really helped with motivation since I joined in August. I've learned a lot about the importance of what I eat rather than just how much fat it has in it. I hope you find the same support here!
Also with regards to your energy decreasing, talk to your doctor about checking your vitamin and iron levels. I was severely lacking energy and it turned out I had a huge Vitamin D deficiency and had to be put on prescription supplements. There are a lot more blood deficiencies that can cause those symptoms too. Once I was being treated it really helped energy level and also decreased body aches I didn't even realize I was having.
