Staying Motivated

Post by Voluptuousme »

Hello! I'm back for those of you who remember me.

I'll be brief. I'm 235lbs. First Goal weight is 200 lbs. would like to lose that weight fairly quickly, wedding is in 7 weeks. If I lose 10 lbs before then i'll be thrilled.

I just joined La. Fitness.

Plan: Walk to the gym (1 mile), bike (15 min.), Weight Training: leg curls, gluts, arms, abs. Elliptical (15 min.) - Walk home (1 mile)
Gym Days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evening.

I will be on day 3 tomorrow of going to the gym. So far I've completed routine, I feel good about it. Pretty modest workout but feels effective.

the Scale bugs the shit out of me. I am not losing as far as that goes. I feel somewhat bloated. I have been eating crappy food. Need to go get some smoothie mix (fresh fruit, low fat yogurt, and Most Pulp Orange juice.) They tend to keep me very full. Considering getting some protein powder.

Plus, you are really, really pretty and think about this if you want motivation - the more fat you lose the hotter you will be and since you are already pretty you'll only get sexier. How's that? Me I'm ugly and even if I lose more weight, I'll still be ugly - but you will be smokin' hot, sista.

You are very sweet. I really like hearing these kinds of things, Though I'm not sure how you can tell I could be pretty from that photo. :P

I will have no fruit, juice, bread, or pasta till wedding. what am i supposed to make a shake out of? I'm sure i might crack on the fruit here and there. I love fruit.

Don't need smoothies too much. Fibre is good for keeping you regular, but Fruit is quite sugary.

Protein helps keep you sated, so look to et more protein with some Carbs instead of the smoothies too much.

You could evne go for something like Low fat Cheese, or good portion of Peanuts as examples.

Went to the gym tonight, Didn't get a great workout I don't think. Friday is day 4 of going to the gym. I get to use a trainer then for an hour. I'm going to write down some advice I got from Boss Man so that I am prepared with a general idea of I need to get out of workout.

I am staying away from the smoothies. Went the store and Got a Ton of Veggies, Any word on potatoes in soup?

I weigh in at 232 today. Lost 2 or 3 lbs. Could just be water weight. I'm feeling really proud of myself for going to the gym consistently this last week.

Thanks for helping me stay Motivated!

So no spuds unless im off to go workout afterward. Makes sense. Carbs = energy

Last night after workout I came home to have dinner. Large Salad and chicken. Probably shouldn't have had such a big salad. Feel really crappy about it. I used vinaigrette dressing and raw mushrooms in it. Half stock of Romain lettuce. and two grilled chicken legs. Probably not great either.

Nuts are pretty mild for protein though. Unless you have a whole cup, then you're consuming around 600-700 calories from the Fat as well. More if it's something like Cashews and Chestnuts as they're two of the more Carb rich Nuts, that have a GI rating.

Potatos can be limited, but they are useful for things like Vitamin C for one thing, so they needn't be removed altogether.

I can't hack it, when some people turn round and act as if things like Watermelon, Parsnip, Potato, Rice and Pasta should be eliminated because they're high GI. Either moderate portions, or have a ratio 25 / 75, or no higher than, 50 / 50, high / low GI foods, in that case. To cut the impact of high GI foods.

I.E. Pasta or Rice with a goodly portion of Mushrooms. A couple of small potatos with a goodly mix of Tomato's, Onions, Carrot etc.

All the aforementined foods are high GI, but have good nutrition, so they're not anywhere near as bad as Biscuits, Cake, Doughnuts etc.

I eat salad from a mixing bowl, its so big & use kraft red pepper dressing, though it has 2 g sugar, 2 g carb, .2 g saturated fat & .2 of protein.I'd switch dressings, but its expensive to buy a bottle & then discover you don't like the taste & I've already lost most of weight using it.

Woke up this morning feeling like crap. Yesterday the pain in knee came back full throttle. I have a feelings its because I ended up running to car while at the gym the other day. The Hard impact on knee must have given it a rough time. I have it propped up right now. Going to take some Ibu. in a few minutes. daughter comes into room at 6:45 am and I am just soooo beat from getting up this early all the time. tummy hurts.

What I had to eat yesterday: bowl of Cheerios with daughter, clam chowder (low Sodium) for lunch, Snacked on a slice of cheese, some sausage slices, and olives for dinner. (Was too lazy to cook and I havn't been feeling all that great the last two days)

I am going to cook eggs with fresh mushrooms this morning for daughter and myself. If the weather stays fair I am going to take her to the park and take the walk down to the water.

Tonight I get an hour with a trainer and I'm going to write down what parts of body I want to work on and get a proper demonstration of how to use the machines.

Are you warming up and stretching properly?

A proper warm up is doing light cardio (elliptical, walking, stationary bike) until you break a sweat, say 5-10min. Then you need to stretch (don't stretch a cold muscle). You should hold the stretch until the burn goes away (a full 30sec+).

When knee gets the occasional pain, stretching the hamstrings, quads and massaging the knee itself usually does the trick.
What I had to eat yesterday: bowl of Cheerios with daughter, clam chowder (low Sodium) for lunch, Snacked on a slice of cheese, some sausage slices, and olives for dinner. (Was too lazy to cook and I havn't been feeling all that great the last two days)
If you really want to lose weight before your wedding, eating like this is not going to get you anywhere fast. You should eat 250 calories every 2.5-3 hours. Aim for 20grams of lean protein and 15-20grams of good carbs in each small meal. You'll also want some veggies at nearly every meal. Good carbs are plain oatmeal, long grain brown rice, and sweet potatoes/yams.

Don't hurt your knee. Rest would be better.
Tonight I get an hour with a trainer and I'm going to write down what parts of body I want to work on and get a proper demonstration of how to use the machines.
I would focus on your core (abs, obliques, lower back), shoulders (delts) and upper back (lats). These moves promote good posture which will make you look slimmer. But of course you still want to hit the rest of your muscle (except your legs if your knee hurts).

Good luck!

*edit
I should mention your daily diet /food intake is key. So much so that it's (in opinion) a 90/10 split between diet/exercise. You can kill yourself in the gym for 2+ hrs a day and not lose any weight/fat if you're not eating correctly.

What a Disappointment

Post by Voluptuousme »

I weigh in this morning at 231.8. Feel rather good about that since I started the week at 234. :)

I had hour with the trainer and I have to say I am really upset about it.
First we went over information: when have I worked out, what do I eat, bad habits, etc.

Then we went over how the body works: muscle loss, breaking down the muscles and building them back up, changing up machines and working different parts of the body to keep up muscles. and Lean muscle.

after all that He said we were going to do a workout and come back to assess me. Oh man he kicked . the lunges, and squats, and that big machine where you stand in it and push up with one leg. (brutal). Anyway after our workout, I had thought I was going to get to ask him how to use some of the machines and how they work. We went back to his desk and the first thing he went over was how much it costs to get a trainer 1 a week or more. I said I can't afford a trainer right now. I don't have the money. I'm paying for a wedding. Well here is the disappointing part, he just pretty much dismissed me after I said no. NO ASSESSMENT, NO GETTING TO ASK QUESTIONS. Just gave me this angry look and dismissed me. So went off to do the elliptical which was hard cause I was feeling like wobbly worm and feeling a bit upset which didn't help me stay motivated.

So this is what I found out about myself: 40.5 % body Fat, 37.6 BMI. I need to build Lean Muscle, no circuit training because it breaks down muscles, Always do Cardio after weights and never before, Warming up and stretching are crucial to not injuring myself.

I am going to do more research on Lean Muscle :?: , create weekly schedules for what weights to use, get a journal to track progress and use this site for support and information. :)
