The Definitive Answer

Post by Boss Man »

Simply because in Britain this phenomenon does not occur. Well not to knowledge anyway, but it does in America.

Ketchup and Catsup. What the heck is the difference?

This has bugged me for a few years now. Not continuously though

Don't you get them sold in different bottles though, as if they're two different things, or is Ketchup just sometimes called Catsup by companies run by loons?

I honestly don't remember seeing one that actually says Catsup, but I guess I have never paid much attention, I don't really like it so I don't buy it :) But now curiosity will get the best of me and I will have to look

Did you never see that episode of the Simpsons, where Burns was broke, and he was staring at a bottle of Ketchup and Catsup in a supermarket and looked confused .

Interesting article on the origin of the word(s) ketchup and catsup and also "catchup" as it was first called.
