Nice pool exercises - now all I need is a pool - LOL I agree, the pool is a great place to workout without the stress on your joints. It's so hard when you have an injury - but where there is a will, there is a way! :)

P.S. - It is a great profile pic - and the tummy shot is ABSolutely GREAT! :)

Thanks guys! upper tummy is alot slimmer than lower tummy - ugh :? Lots of work to do there still.
That profile pic was from a beautiful morning a few years ago on the Texas Gulf Coast just west of Galveston. I loved to run on the beach at sunrise.

Todays workout:

3.0 mile timed run - 26:34
.5 recovery jog

Reading some of your running experiences. I'm going to heed some of the advice here.

Got home from the grocery store, pulled the car into the garage and then went to the house door and stood in front of it, trying to unlock it for several moments...couldn't figure out why it wouldn't unlock! When I finally realized I was trying to unlock the house door with the remote key pad for car!! Pointing it at the door and pushing "unlock....unlock....unlock" geez...  I think I need some carbs.... :P

Just remember to gradually add time and miles to your training. I remember reading on your journal that you were/are joining a local running club that has a 5K training course? I think that is a good idea. A combination of weight training with a mix of cardio (interval and steady) is going to continue to help you drop your weight down - you're on the right track! (get it.?..."track"..."running"... )

Proud of myself today...grocery shopping is hard enough, but when you are hungry and shopping it is so much harder not to make those "impulse" buys. I was buying some frozen fruit for smoothies and walked past the ice cream sandwiches....oh...weak knees......but I kept going....yey me!
Then I was starving, so on the drive home I talked myself into thinking I deserved a hamburger and fries from McD's so I pull up to the drive thru and (mouth watering) I scan the menu and just couldn't do it.....I ordered a grilled chicken salad w/ff dressing instead. :D :D Felt so much better knowing that I just passed up about 60 fat grams and 1000 calories - I thought how much work I would have to do to burn that off, just to stay even and it wasn't worth it. Now workout today will feel like I'm actually making progress, not just burning off lunch.

Nicely done on the meal choice :) Yesterday I went shopping, though i've been craving carbs for a week. went into the bakery to see what cheat I wanted for this month. mouth started to drool ?..picked a jumbo chocolate/chocolate chip muffin & went home had lunch, made tea & split the muffin in half, gave son one half & bit by bit ate the other half, was heavenly.I don't feel the least bit bad for doing it.From the choice u managed to make at that drive through window & ice cream sandwich isle, seems like you have broken through the barrier that holds most people back from success, congrats :)

Yes you are making progress. That photo proves quite a bit.

The other one of your 48th is great. That is a great smile and that is the face of someone, who is showing people that age doesn't have to wither you and you have a lot of "youthful maturity" and I've seen people before a few years younger than you, that clearly have a bad lifestyle and have a face like a chewed pencil because of it.

You CAN be proud of yourself and you are a representation of what good living can do for people. Your example is very noteworthy and meritworthy and something to learn from.

You will improve on this, but you can really see how more of that inner beauty is starting to shine through.

I'm very proud of you and I have total unwavering belief in you as a person. What you want to achieve physically, I believe you ARE capable of and I know you will do it.

Keep up the hard work and good luck :).

Thank you Boss Man. There was a time when I would not have made a good example for anyone to follow....so, if nothing else, I want to be an example of someone who has turned their life around. It is never to late to be who you were meant to be - life sometimes knocks us off our feet, I know it has me, a time or two. But I am a survivor - in every sense of the word. I refuse to give in or give up. :D

Allison, I was thinking the same thing when I read that, but then I remembered it was Lynne

Just when I was starting to think running might be in future, knees/legs are giving out on me. Lynne - do you have any issues with your knees? What do you do to avoid it?

I tried the Elliptical again this morning (I hate it!), but would prefer to use the Treadmill OR walk/run outside. Your *recovery* run is full steam ahead! LOL

Have you tried any Cartilage specific supplements like Hyaluronic Acid or Cartazyne?

Glucosamine has been touted for Joint issues, but recent evidence suggests for Osteoarthritis, (not saying you've got it), it's not that effective.

Some say it's a damp squib product, that works better when combined with Chondroitin.

Chitosan is another one, but owing to the Chitin content as in Glucosamine too, Chitosan is not good for people with Shellfish allergies.

When you say giving out, you mean pain issues, or simply they fatigue?

ahaha! you guys are funny. A recovery run is simply a mile pace that I can run easily, maintaining even breathing - I guess it could be considered "steady state".

I have had problems with knees in the past but it was mostly due to trying to increase mileage or speed before body was ready and/or running on concrete. I have at times worn a knee brace looks something like this:
Image
and NO! that is NOT knee!!! lol!!!

But ask your doctor first about it, some knee braces might make an injury worse if it is compressed.

Todays workout:
3 timed mile repeats
1st mile: 9:26
2nd mile: 8:34
3rd mile: 8:14 - :D

1 mile recovery run
.5 cool down walk
Total workout time: 43:50

After the results from blood tests hopefully I'll have some answers.... knees don't *give out* per se but left knee feels like it might - hard to describe. I'll update on journal before Lynne starts charging rent - :)
