I like the 9 out of 10 rule. I think everyone should be allowed to endulge every once in a while. Sorry Brent, I couldn't find a Matrix reference here.

I feel I should just give you a small reminder:

 LOL! Yes they are plain chips - I think it is a salt craving.
Bonnie wrote:Just a question but if you are set on eating healthy, why on earth is your husband eating chips ?
I have to try to please everyone in the household. He likes potato chips with his sandwich. hubby and son are not on "diet plan" and therefore eat different food than I do. son loves his Pringles sour cream & onion. I have added alot more fruits and veggies... son tells me he is the only one at school lunch time that has fresh fruit and veggies in his lunch - all the other kids order from the school lunches, but end up begging him for his lunch - or stealing his fruit when he isn't looking. :( That's kind of sad isn't it? Anyway, that is why I end up with things in the house that I can't eat.

And thanks Jocelyn for your words of encouragement, it is nice to know you understand and relate to what I was feeling. :D

thanks Les!! You are right...one day at a time...and as LaReina says "eat, sleep, train, repeat!"

5K race this morning!! The temps were in the high 70's with an 83% humidity factor! ugh!
BUT! I was excited to finish - knocking another 1 min. 20 sec. off last 5K time!! :D So steady chipping away at race times. I didn't feel as great as I would have liked during the race, I was winded nearly the whole way, but it is a race afterall...not supposed to be a leasurely stroll  I didn't expect to best previous time by more than a minute especially with the humidity and heat - but hey! no wonder I was winded, I was working hard!
Anyway, it was fun, and I'm already looking ahead to find another race!
Hope everyone has a great weekend! Sorry, no pics of this race - forgot camera.

Thanks everyone!! :D

Took an extra rest day today. Left hip a bit sore - probably from the race Saturday, and also, we dug out and leveled the ground to put up our pool in the backyard - lots of shoveling, bending, etc. - so I had an extra workout! Got first sunburn of the season. :x.

Foods have been good.
breakfast: apple w/pb
lunch: albacore tuna & LF cottage cheese, 2 tbsp. almonds, pistachios
snack: LF string cheese
dinner: tacos w/hamburger (drained & rinsed) & instead of taco shells I'm eating mine with lettuce leaf "shells". Making own special pica gallo (tomatos, green onions, cilantro, w/guacamole and just a bit of LF shr. cheese and picante sauce - yum!
I have a chocolate Atkins protein shake in case I'm hungry after that, but with no workout today, I will try to avoid excess calories.

gotta get "booty" sleep tonight....early a.m. run planned ......oh, sorry was that supposed to be "beauty" sleep? ahahaha, I crack myself up.

Thanks Jocelyn! Hope you are having fun on your vacation, thanks for taking time to stop in and check on us! :D

5 mile run early a.m.
Felt very tired this morning, no energy - but I pushed myself, refused to stop until I did mileage. I ran slow, but just concentrated on putting one foot in front of the other. On the bright side, it was a beautiful morning, nice breeze around 54 degrees, bird chirping, squirrels out & about - all that cool stuff - just wish body would have been more cooperative this morning.
I don't think I ate enough yesterday - maybe that's the reason.
Anyway, glad i did it - and there will always be a better day ahead. :D

Yeah, this whole low carb thing is really affecting running and overall diet. Not sure it is the best thing for me. To be honest, I'm totally confused now about what to eat, not to eat. I want to lose fat, so I'm trying to eat less fat, so body will burn what I have on me. But then I try to eat less carbs so that excess carbs don't store on me as fat - see?

  yes, that would be me, LOL!
Actually, there is one stretch of road that on several occasions in the past while running before daylight, I have had deer run across the road - RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME - nearly colliding a couple of times - 'bout gave me a heart attack!

energy dropped for about three weeks, following the elimination of breads, rice, etc.Now it has bounced back, double fold.I hear u on the balance of fat, carbs seriously it is not an easy thing, because if a food doesnt have fat, then it still has carbs, guess we can just try balance as much as possible & tweak it if weight loss stops ? Hope you have a better run tomorrow :)

I have a question:

When son was a baby up until he was nearly 4, I used to go running while pushing him in a baby jogger, in a very hilly neighborhood. It helped me shed "baby weight" but I developed large calf muscles. Then over the course of the last few years, I have gained weight, lost weight, gained and lost - but I noticed that I was holding on to weight in legs - never did that before. I've always had muscular legs, but it seems calves have taken on a life of their own. Of course I probably think they look worse than they do, but I'm not comfortable with their size. I know there is still some fat on them - I can rub hand down them and see little pockets of cellulite, but for the most part it is all muscle. Is there a way to reduce the size of calves?
I've even gone so far as to change running style from a heel strike, push off to a mid foot strike trying to utilize thigh muscle more for forward motion instead of the calf.
right calf is bigger than left - and measures at about 17.5". I was in a group photo with other runners in running club - and I could really see that calves looked HUGE (not exaggerating) compared to the other female runners.
I am hoping that continued weight loss will help reduce the size - but was hoping for some insight. :?

OMG~! Where do I begin - honestly I had to go back and read three pages of posts - I started to get worried about you!

Like others who have responded, you don't have to eat *perfect* all the time - I know I cheat here and there. Sometimes I just can't resist those Cheese-Its and gobble them down, OR like you CAKE kills me! Make it a Sundae and I'm there~! Easter time I always bake 2 Bunny Cakes (they are adorable) and I start in on the leftover cake and eat until I just HAVE to throw it away! Of course I hate myself afterward, probably what you feel when you eat something you know you shouldn't :( It's almost like an obsession when it's around - so the answer is, don't keep that type of food around (if possible, I know you have family that eat some of it) Ideally it would be GREAT eating clean ALL the time, but that's probably not going to happen, and feeling is if it's real hard or impossible to do (as we are all human) one might give it up all together which would be awful!

Bottom line is - Give yourself a break - don't be so hard on yourself - YOU are doing AWESOME! Celebrate the successes - minimize the mistakes.

As far as your calves I have no idea! They are probably the envy of those who have stick legs -:)

Keep up the good work Lynne - I know food is the biggest challenge. I still maintain finding the foods you like and are the right mix of what you need and creating a daily menu is the easiest way to stay on track. Each day being acceptable food that can be interchangable depending on what you have available or time constraints etc.

Good luck - I'm right here with you - ALL THE WAY! -:)

Keep them. The more powerful and solid they are the better. Don't forget, when you're over fifty, you may start losing a bit of size anyway, so don't get bothered by some Calves, just embrace them.

I like that Lu. :D I will try to do more of that - thank you as always for giving me a much needed pep talk. 8)

Thanks Boss Man, I hadn't really thought of them as an asset before - always obsessing about their size. Once more you prove and point out a very important thing...we aren't all supposed to be built the same, we can't or shouldn't all have perfect (what ever that is!) body parts, and we should learn to look at our bodies as instruments of health - the outer shell we were given to help our inner self be as healthy as possible. calves, while they may be bigger than the average gal's, are strong, powerful - solid as a rock and will carry me through the rest of this life.
Bonnie had talked about on her journal about learning to accept oneself as is, and I think that is what I need to do as well. Not to say, I am where I need to be weight wise - that is still "a work in progress" but accepting the body I am blessed to have and helping it reach it's own unique potential - whatever size that may end up at. We put so much stress on fitting into a certain body frame, or image in our minds, that can truthfully be unrealistic which sets us up for inevitable failure.
So, Boss Man and everyone else who encourages me and reminds me of the good things about myself, thanks for helping me see myself in a different light - tomorrow looks a little brighter now. :D
