Mexican food with jalapenos: How healthy are they?

Post by jared767 »

Recently, I'm getting fond of Mexican foods. I thought that with lots of vegetables on it, it should be healthy. I have experimented making salsa and using jalapenos to spice up some of the meals. Is it bad to have too much of it?

No, it shouldn't be.

As you may be aware, Halapenos have seeds in them, so by definition they are a Fruit, not vegetable.

However it all depends on the akalinity or Acidity of foods. Vegetables mostly are Alkaline as are things like Coconut Milk and Dairy an I think Legumes.

Certain things like Citrus Fruits, Meat, Onions etc are Acidic and promote Acidity problems.

The body can regulate it's own blood and Stomach PH, but spicy food can only cause things like GERD, (Gastro-Eosophageal Reflux Disorder), or Hyperaciditiy, which in turn can prmote GERD, if the meal is very acidic and increases stomahc PH.

Curries made with Coconut Milk for example, will contain an Alkali substance, cutting the meals potential to promote Hyeracidity and and / or GERD. Curries without may have higher Acidity levels and thusly affect Stomahc PH more negatively.

Hyperacidity can cause food to becoem Hyperacidic and then that can affetc the digestion and I beleive cause irritation of the Duodenum, the section of digestive tract, directly below the Pyloric Valve which is at the base of the Stomach.

Things that cna prevent acidity issues also include.

Drinking Milk, more Water, not having Citrus and Whole-grains together, as apparently that increases Hyperacidity risk so I believe, something to do with the respective enzymes competing in a bad way, also increasing things like Legume and Leafy Vegetable consumption too will help, so such thigns might negate the need to have antacids, due to the reduced potential for increased stomahc Ph incidences.

Though if you get GERD symptoms, drinking some Water or Milk may stop then, again preventing the need or antacids in in a specific instance.

As a side note, spicy food does not cause stomach or peptic ulcers, as those are now known to be caused by something called Heligobactor Pylori, (H-pylori), virus.

So hopefully that gives you more insight into the situation you're describing. It's probably a btit more than you were hopging to read, but if it informs you better on related matters, I see that as plus point :).

if you're trying to gain lean muscle mass then go for it as its a great option. if trying to lose weight ehh well i guess if you work out enough days a week then 1 small meal wouldnt hurt as it does have alot of nutrients and protein, just make sure its not red meat you're eating and limit sodium when you make it. there are some red meats you can eat tho, google it.
