Looking for some suggestions...

Post by irie_vibes »

Whats up guys, I'm wanting some suggestions on how i should tackle situation. I've got kind of an hour glass shape going on and i'd really like to get rid of it and get in good shape. Currently I run 2 miles at least 3-4 days a week, 5-6 days if I can and sometimes I"ll throw in a 3-4 mile run. I have been doing MMA classes 3 days a week for about a month now (lots of cardio) and i have been doing some weight lifting/core exercises on and off for a while. Tomorrow I am going to start a good core workout plan. Also I'm 18, 5'8", and about 155lbs if it matters. Is there anything I should change or add? ultimate goal is to have a little more of a toned look. Thanks

I would focus more on weights and be a bit more limiting on the Cardio, simply because when you add the weights into the mix as well, there's a risk you might do too much.

I'd also limit yourself to 5 days a week, not 6 as that way you can't train 6 days straight and you can always split the two off days, so you're not doing 5 days straight and then 2 days of nothing.

Muscle burns an extra 45-50 calories a day for every added lb, so it makes sense to focus a bit on that.

The Cardiovascular stuff could still be done 3 maybe even 4 times a week, either on non-weights days or after weights sessions, for around 30 minutes, depending on the schedule you use.

Good info. Is it better to use weights or can I accomplish the same with pull ups, chin ups, push up type exercises?

Weights would probably be more beneficial, but you could do bodyweighted stuff coupled with a beneficial eating regime and see how you get on.
