How much protein?
I just resumed resistance training after a 2 year hiatus and have, for the first time (I'm 37) gotten serious about cardio. I've read numerous posts from various sites advising us to get a gram of protein per pound of body weight. I drink a whey shake (one scoop) after each session, be it cardio or weights, and would guess that intake for the day of protein would average about 70 to 80 grams. The dietician I work with reviewed exercise plan and suggested no more that 80 grams of protein per day for needs. I do not want to build massive muscle...I'm 5'10" and weigh 168 lbs...I'm more interested in building lean muscle and losing the and love handles. Is the "gram per pound" geared more for the massive muscle builders or should I too step up the protein intake?? thanks...
- you should probably have the protein before running to protect whatever muscle you have
- as bossman said 120g a day at least and i would probably go higher as serious cardio means endless volume so you'll need it for recovery...rememeber carbs fuel, protein repairs
- cardio will not lose and love handles although it will make them worse...building muscle will though so what do you really want to do??
