Hi, new here. I'm Nick. I am going to keep this short.... I live in San Diego, and I am getting back into exercise. Currently, I run 8 miles a day, do about 80 crunches a day, about 60 pushups, about 20 bicycle kicks, and free weights. goal is to build muscle and burn fat... and I know that the more muscle mass you have overall, the faster your body is going to burn calories.
Namely, I would like to lose gut, (from drinking 30 beers a night while recovering from the inguinal hernia repair, percoset and the like have absolutely NO effect on me), build pec muscles, and lose lovehandles.
However, I also want to build up abdominal area as well. Specifically, the groin area. I had an inguinal hernia on the left side, and I am never going through that pain again... but only being 4 months out of the surgery, I am still very paranoid about it. If I suck in gut and thrust out pelvis, as directed by something on ehow.com or whatever, to strengthen that area, I feel a LOT of pressure on the repair area, and that scares me. I can only wear 36 pants comfortably because 34s, while I fit into perfectly, and feel nice, after a few minutes, the hernia area starts hurting. I would like to slim down to that weight again, since most of pants are size 34.
are there any safe exercises I can do to strengthen that area? and if I do strengthen that, are core exercises, along with LOTS and LOTS of cardio, safe to do, and effective? thanks much...

One of the best ones for the Abs is Planks, because it doesn't require any muscle movement, as the exercise is a static one.

I had never thought of planks.... good one! thanks! ...no muscle movement, yeah, but how does that go with abdomen pressure? I'm paranoid about putting too much pressure on abdomen/groin area, where the repair is....Boss Man wrote:One of the best ones for the Abs is Planks, because it doesn't require any muscle movement, as the exercise is a static one.

Try them the normal way and if thye hurt a bit, switch to the variation where you use the forearms and lower Legs, not forearms and feet to balance.
