There's plenty of exercises for Abs apart from Crucnhes and Planks.
Reverse Crunches, Roman Chairs, Leg Raises, including Swiss Ball Leg Raises, V Crunches, Sit-ups with your feet planted under something, Cable Crunches, Side bends for Obliques, although they would be an additional thing, not a main exercise. Bicycle Crunches as well, Swiss Ball Crunches, Sit ups with a twist, including a disc or medicine ball, Punch sit-ups, Leg Lifts and Side Crunches as well.
The Abs will also get targeted with things like Cleans, Deadlifts and Squats etc.

Re: Jena's Journal.
Reverse crunches I do sometimes. What are roman chairs? Cable crunches? Swiss ball crunches? Also, I hate hate hate doing deadlifts. I also don't know how to do a clean or whether I'd even want to and I don't see how squats target abdominals...Boss Man wrote:There's plenty of exercises for Abs apart from Crucnhes and Planks.

Well, today went pretty well. I went to a museum with roomie and we walked around A LOT. I got in a good 4 hours on feet I'm guessing. So, totals are going to look really low with exercise value today. And I don't know if this is good or bad, but I'm going to be going to the zoo tomorrow. c: c:

I really wish that I could afford a pt. I see a few of them in the Ray and I creepily eavesdrop if I'm working out nearby and I really like a few of them. But they're too expensive, also I'm not sure that I'd be able to commit enough time to working out to make it worth it. As for those exercises, I don't know if I'd be able to do them as I don't trust myself to work with machinery other than the few things I was taught to use in high school... I think I'll stick to crunches and planks and the like as far as ab work goes though... *shrug* To be perfectly honest, I wish I could do all working out with only bodyweight exercises since I try to avoid being around people in the gym as much as possible since there is not a single overweight person that I have ever seen there and so it makes me really uncomfortable. :/ That sort of uncomfortableness is also what keeps me from joining any of the really cool sounding fitness classes, because I hate being around people when I work out. To the point that I quit working out at home when family is around. (So I did all working out at home after parents were already at work and before brother got up) I'm really strange... :/ :/

I wouldn't want to exercise around family either. I can see that being uncomfortable. mom would just sit there and laugh i'm sure.

Too bad you couldn't get up really early (don't know when your gym opens) and go then. or at least at a time when there not busy?? I know that's probably hard to do though.
Have fun at the zoo tomorrow!

Re: Jena's Journal.
Squats can use Abs, particularly if you use a Bar variation, because the abs are helping to support the weight and are being stressed to some degree.

Re: Jena's Journal.
Our gym opens at 5:30, however, we have to consider that since I'm busy almost all day long, I don't get to bed until about midnight, so 6 is the earliest I'm willing to get up and I then have to fit in gym time before classes. So.. Yeah. School makes working out hard, but I'll figure it out. Also, didn't end up going to the zoo today. I did go to a farmer's market today and cook dinner for "family" today. c: I did a lot of walking again, so yay. c: I didn't eat very well today though, so boo.musculArgirl2 wrote:Too bad you couldn't get up really early (don't know when your gym opens) and go then. or at least at a time when there not busy?? Re: Jena's Journal.
Depending on what the bulk of the fat intake as, it would'nt be a major issue.
Fat is reccomended based on a sedentary 2,000 calorie a day average, as 70g per day, with 20g for Saturates, which is around 28.28% of total. I'm not sure what it is for the 1,800 a day sedentary female average.
You exceeding the intake by 28g might seem like an issue, but bearing in mind you exercise, you'll burn more calories from ramping up your metabolism, so the extra intake shouldn't have had any significant effect and unless you were eating that much regularly, it won't be a tangible hinderance to your weight loss.
I'm glad to see you're trying to find a way to fit the exercise in around the studies and that you're still logging the food and trying to have greater accountability, because I see these things a small steps to progress, but things that can aid and facilitate progress.
So I am proud of you Jena and I want you to be proud of yourself too, because along wtih the small amount of weight loss you've achieved in the past few weeks, you ARE starting to get somewhere and it's great to see, so chin up, be strong and KEEP IT UP

I imagine it would be high in saturated fat since I had a thing of cheese bread sticks from DominoBoss Man wrote:Depending on what the bulk of the fat intake as, it wouldn't be a major issue.

Thanks, Boss, I need to find the scale in the gym or scrape up cash enough to buy one in order to keep track of the weight.Boss Man wrote:So I am proud of you Jena and I want you to be proud of yourself too, because along wtih the small amount of weight loss you've achieved in the past few weeks, you ARE starting to get somewhere and it's great to see, so chin up, be strong and KEEP IT UP![]()

Today I didn't get any exercise in since I had to work an involvement fair as the secretary of an organization I'm in, I did a lot of sitting in the sun, and as usual I ended up with a pink line across the tops of cheeks and the bridge of nose. That's the only place on entire body that I do anything other than tan. I've never gotten a sunburn in whole life, only a little pinkness across the bridge of nose. It looks silly. Haha. I'm hoping that I can make workout schedule look like this.
Monday - off
Tuesday - Before class
Wednesday - off
Thursday - before class
Friday - after class
Saturday - morning
Sunday - morning
I'm not sure if make this work, if I can I want to possibly do a workout before class on Wednesday and switch that off day to either Friday or Saturday/ I don't know though. Right now, it's looking more like Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday are days that I'll actually be able to get time to workout. We'll see. c:

Re: Jena's Journal.
Cheesy Bread Sticks do sound a bit heinous fat wise.
The main thing with the workouts is, you're trying to schedule something in when you can. This is proactive and it's a case of take it each day at a time and see if your plans are workable or need modifying.
Good for you though, being more proactive and thinking more about it. You made some decent progress in the past few weeks and capitalising on it is a kay part of your future as well as your studies.
I like what I am seeing from you, because you are being more forward thinking, and assessing things more positively, than may have been the case preciously.
Keep on pushing and keep on believing, because you ARE worth it.

I do what I can, Boss, today was much better eating-wise so far and Jenna and I are going to a fitness class together tonight. I'm nervous and pretty sure I'm gonna eff it up. Lul. Or die. One of the two.Boss Man wrote:Cheesy Bread Sticks do sound a bit heinous fat wise.

Thanks, Becky! Class went okay. I think I'm going to die, butt I went with a few friends. (Found three more of our girlfriends on the way to the gym so we all did the class). I wasn't the only one that was super whipped. Hwoever, I modified some of the moves, like avoiding the half balll balancing. We're thinking of making it a Monday thing. I don't know how I like that though because it KILLED me. Oh wells. Anyway, I' off to bed now so here are daily totals.musculArgirl2 wrote:HOpe you have fun at your class Jena. Re: Jena's Journal.
Good idea. You've got something concrete in the schedule and other people to be accountable too if you don't go.
This will help you to get some regularity into your schedule and be a good source of support, plus you proved it was workable in conjunction with your other needs, so it wasn't going to conflict or reduce abiltiy to do additional study or anything like that.
Definitely do this Jena, because it will be a great idea and it proves you've found people who are happy to be part of something you're doing, which definitely says something about you as a person, regards what others think of you

Re: Jena's Journal.
If it makes me feel like I do today, I'm not sure I want to go anymore. Lol. I might go to a 30min Reshape class with Jenna tomorrow evening, but that depends on how legs feel, like, today I can't walk up or down stairs, I can't straighten legs and I can't raise arms above shoulder level. It's EXTREMELY painful.Boss Man wrote:Good idea. You've got something concrete in the schedule and other people to be accountable too if you don't go.
Right now since it's the beginning of the quarter, I don't have any time intensive homework... Soooo, yeah, we'll see how it pans out as the year goes on.Boss Man wrote:This will help you to get some regularity into your schedule and be a good source of support, plus you proved it was workable in conjunction with your other needs, so it wasn't going to conflict or reduce abiltiy to do additional study or anything like that.
Well, these girls have hearts of gold and I love them to death, so I'd certainly hope that they at least care for me a little back. Thanks for the hint and not the outright compliment, Boss, I appreciate that a lot. Lol.Boss Man wrote:Definitely do this Jena, because it will be a great idea and it proves you've found people who are happy to be part of something you're doing, which definitely says something about you as a person, regards what others think of you.
In any case, today was kinda sucky, I woke up late so I didn't go to the gym this morning (actually even if I woke up on time, I don't know if I'd go since I can't walk stairs... SO PAINFUL) I ate okay, but not very well. I also need to get more protein into diet and more fibre as well, sugar levels are way too high, besides, fibre would make me fuller and it's just better in general. I also need to find a scale to check weight, but I don't want to check weight while I'm at the gym with girls. In any case, I'm exhausted, so I'm going to brush teeth then sleep.
