Good Vegitarian diets?

Post by brunette150 »

I guess thats a silly question but I can't stand meat anymore. It really does sicken me to even think about it! So I eat alot of breads and pastas things like that... beans too. I guess its fine by me since I read that the whole high protein low card raises risk of breast cancer in women anyways. (I've got too much risk for that as it is!) I guess what I'd like to know is if anyone has any meal suggestions that would be a lil less fattening? Salads are great but i'd like a bit more variety.

Well for vegitarian Protein sources you should be looking at these.

Soybeans.

Tofu, (Soybean Curd).

Theres also something called Tempeh.

Soy sources are quite good apprently at protecting against some forms of Cancer, and the Isoflavones are very similar genetically to Oestrogen, so they bind to Oestrogen receptors, cutting the risk of internal problems resulting from excess Oestrogen production in women.

Beans / other Legumes

Peas

Rice

Wheatbread.

Low Fat Cheese/ Skimmed Milk, Egg Whites.

There's ways of doing what you want.

E.G. Breakfast

1 Bowl Wholegrain Cereal + Skimmed milk, with 3 Scrambled Egg Whites + Yolk.

4 Scrambled Egg Whites + Yolk, on two pieces of Toasted Whole-grain Wheatbread + Pot of Low Fat Fruit Yoghurt

Two Slices of Toasted Wheatbread + Melted Low Fat Cheese + small Pot Low Fat Fruit Yoghurt.

This meal could be had though for say an snack in the evening say around 8:00-10:00PM with a few Almonds.

For other meals you could do something like this.

A portion of Brown Rice, for Protein and Carbs, and a small Low Fat Fruit Yoghurt, and some Almonds for Fats.

If needs be, just get a few bits of Basil, or Coriander or some other herb, and just finely chop the herb source, to add something extra to the Rice. That might add a little flavour possibly.

Main Meal.

Soybeans + Veg source.

4-5 Egg Whites + 1 Yolk, made into an Omelette, with possibly a Mushroom, (extra Protein and Carbs or Spinach Filling), and something like Broccoli.

I wouldn't if I were you, do the Omelette thing for dinner if you've had an Egg Breakfast, you don't want too many Eggs per day.

Or why not make fake Pizzas?

Get some Wholegrain Wheatbread, about 2 slices, Melt some Low Fat Cheese on them, then add a Mushroom and Tomato topping. There should be plenty of Protein in the Cheese and Mushrooms to satisfy you.

Hope those help.

Good advice already from bossman. You can have a great vegetarian diet that is healthy and will even promote fat loss if you want it to. I myslef have done quite a few vegetarian nutrition programs for women who want to lose fat.
No need to go low carb high protein. Just moderate calories with a balance of carbs, protein and fat. Some good protein choices for you can include egg whites, cottage cheese, lentils, soy, whey, nuts, etc.

Let me know if I can help any more.

Just be aware with Nuts, they are a good Fatty Acid source too, so Calories can get quite high in sizeable quantities.

Also, don't go for Salty ones, stick to low Salt ones, and be aware that some Nuts, mainly ones like Peanuts and Cashews, have a GI rating, so when you're combining them with a Carb source, you might increase Glycemic Load.

As a vegatarian myself there are many foods to eat which are alot healthier than fatty meats pumped full of hormones and possibly containg bacteria.( E-coli,salmonella) Black beans with brown rice is one of faves tons of protein and fiber. I add vegetables and vary the spices. favorite is mexican style. Add cumin, hot sauce such as tobasco, chop a fresh tomatoe and a quarter of a sweet onion; some fresh chopped cilantro and a bit of lime juice awesome!!!!!! So filling and healthy. For a special treat top with shredded soy cheese or if you're not vegan dairy cheese. :D
