cardio/weights ratio

Post by DanikaM »

I was wondering if anyone could provide some ideas for me.

I started running again. I do a 2 mile route. This includes a run/walk combination. I'm not up to a full 2 mile run but I have been able to do about half on a good day which is better than normal :) The walking is mainly for the warm up and then some for up hill.

I hear that you should do around 2-3 days a week of cardio for about 30 minutes. I also hear that it is the best for getting rid of fat. True?

I also do weight training and was wondering about how many days of the week and for how long should I focus on that so I get a good cardio/weight ratio.

I had heard to do 30 minutes of weights then 30 minutes of cardio. If that much time is available. I heard to do the weights first because something about burning through the calories from protein then carbs and that fat is the hardest so leave cardio for last to deal with that. True as well?

I am trying to build muscle and lose fat.

Any help would be awesome!

Thank you!

You could do a system like this if you wanted to.

Day 1. Weights

Day 2. Cardio

Day 3. Weights

Day 4. Day off

Day 5. Cardio

Day 6. Weights

Day 7. Day off

This splits your off days and stops you training more than 3 days straight.

You would be working out for around 45-60 minutes, maybe a bit longer, doing total body stuff, working all the muscle groupd 3x a week.

Alternatively on the weights, you could do a 3 days split, so something like Legs / Biceps, Chest / Triceps, Back / Shoulders.

Cardio is fine for 30 minutes. Interval is a good one to use. I'd perhaps go for something not to difficult right now, in lieu of your admissions abour Cardiovascular ability and stick to a level 2 or 3.

I'm really happy you're going for the muscle building option and hopefully you'll end up with a strong, healthy body that lasts a lifetime and female muscle DOES have the ability to accentuate beauty, not detract from it, so ignore any bullcrap about manly looks etc, as most of that is said by people who never go near gyms anyway and on many occasions are overweight slobs no doubt.
