I didn't make it to te gym last night :( lack of sleep finally caught up with me yesterday. We didn't get home until 3:30 am on Monday and I didn't get to bed until 5:00 am and was up at 8:00  Then the next two nights I only got 4 and 5 hours of sleep respectively... grrr  I actually fell asleep at desk yesterday afternoon  That was hint to go home. I didn't think a trip to the gym would be very productive in that state.

I have got myself all motivated this morning that I am going to do weights and I don't care what the guys think 8) We'll see how that actually goes once I am there! I will only be doing cardio tonight and tomorrow night because I don't know a thing about the weights yet, but hopefully this weekend I will be able to do the orientation!

I got a grill for birthday in May (I have been wanting to get one forever but never wanted to spend the money). I grilled chicken last night and it was PERFECT! I was shocked :) Anyway, I could always use some suggestions for foods to grill, so if you have anything I would appreciate it!

Kabobs are great and easy to make a complete meal. Lots of veggies like zucchini, mushrooms, onions, squash paired with chicken or shrimp or lean cuts of beef - yummmy!!!!! Baste or marinate them with a bit of FF Italian dressing, scrumptious.

Mmmmm, I think I will make kabobs after next grocery shopping trip :P

I am going to go straight to the gym after work today but I have a dilemma. I typically eat at the following times:

7:00 am
9:30 am
12:00 pm
2:30 pm

Then I eat dinner whenever I get home. When I used to work out at home I would snack on something before I worked out, then I would have dinner after I was done. Now that I will be going straight to the gym, I will need to bring something with me to eat before I workout. I have been told that the best time to drink a protein shake is after a workout. Would it be beneficial to have the shake on way home from work before I workout? If I have it after a workout I feel like it interferes with dinner.

You must be one of the few females that got a "practical" present and didn't baulk it.

I've heard many females don't like such presents.

Happy birthday darling.

Ohh what have you got me, it looks big.

Open it and see!.

A Deep Fat Fryer??? You insensitive PIG.

Actually, I am one of those independent females that lives alone and doesn't have a guy to buy her things so she has to do everything herself  Plus I asked for the grill, sisters got it for me :D

I went to the gym tonight and all I can say is I am sooooooo glad I joined :D I did 40 minutes on the treadmill (5 minute warm-up, 30 minutes of intervals - two minutes jogging, two minutes walking, 5 minute cool-down). I always forget how much I love running until I actually run :D I had to take it easy a bit because I am still nursing a fractured toe/foot, but I kind of just pushed through the pain. I know, stupid, but it felt so good to be running again I couldn't help myself!

A couple of nights ago I did the elliptical and I don't enjoy it anywhere near as much as the treadmill. I always hear everybody call it the dreadmill, but I like it  I like knowing exactly how fast I am going and exactly how far I have gone and so on. I also love that all of the cardio machines in gym have built in fans - it gives me the outdoor running feel  I love running outside as well, but I hate humidity, so I will take the treadmill any day over Wisconsin humidity! (by the way, I have discovered South Dakota has no humidity - I want to move there...).

I know  It is a little sore tonight now, but not too bad. I think it will be ok, but I am definitely going to keep eye on it! It doesn't feel so bad when I run because that is the foot that tends to go numb

I'm really glad you didn't use the foot as an excuse to not bother. I've heard of people not working out for a whole week with a slightly stiff Elbow or a slight cough.

You CAN be proud of doing what you did, becasue it's easy to say things like I've got a sore foot or a broken Toe, so I can't train, but it takes a little bit of courage to say I have these minor issues, but I believe I can work around them and not let them get to me.

I'm proud of you for assessing the situation and working with or around it, instead of letting it control you in ways you could avoid letting it do.

WELL DONE Jocelyn :).

Thanks Boss Man :)

Tonight I started on the treadmill doing intervals, but after 15 minutes I had to stop. I had terrible blisters on heels from newer shoes and I was bleeding - that hurts worse than broken toe when I run - go figure! Actually, it was the walking intervals that hurt the worst because when I was running I was compensating by running on the balls of feet - that caused all sorts of issues (hurt the toe/fractured part of foot, caused some crazy calf cramping, lots of burning on the balls of feet). I figured that probably wasn't good, so I thought I should stop.

After the 15 minutes of the treadmill I did another 20 minutes on the recumbent bike doing hills. BORING! I missed treadmill :( Any suggestions on how to keep the blisters from getting worse?

I hope I can get something set up for orientation this weekend so I can start doing weights!

Saturday I did a 2.5 mile walk with Stewie. I decided to take the rest of the weekend off becuase of blisters.

Tonight - Treadmill:

5 min warmup, 30 minutes of intervals (3 minutes run, 2 minutes walk - except last 5 minutes I ran entire time), 5 minute cool down

I set orientation up for Saturday morning :) So Saturday is the day that I will start the weights.

I have to say it feels sooooooo good to be exercising again :D

I could not sleep last night  I tossed and turned until 3:00 - and I get up at 5:45  I think it is the running - I was really sore while I tossed and turned and I am sure I still had the adrenaline going. I was not sore when I went to bed and I am not now (well, slightly, but nothing major, just a good healthy ache), but I think being tired caused muscles to ache more. It happened after I ran last Thursday as well. I guess body just needs to get used to it again. Hopefully I don't fall asleep at desk again

Don’t forget to stretch before and after your workout. It helps a lot with soreness.
