I am 5ft2in female - 270lbs - 27 years old. Was active then events in life changed - became sedentary and gained a lot of weight. I would not like to be able to change lifestyle. I've decided to go ahead and just exercise and count calories instead of any fad diet.
I just kind of dove in - what I am doing now is walking for 30 minutes or using the elliptical 20 minutes on alternating days approx. 6-7 days a week.
I have also reduced diet to approximately 1200 calories a day. I would say typically I eat 5 times a day - something light for breakfast (fruit), lunch around 400 calories, snack before workout (veggie and hummus), dinner (around 400 cals), then a light snack later in the evening (fruit, low cal pudding, something dessert-ish).
I have not even been doing this for a week yet - but just really wanted to get started while the motivation to begin is there. I could definitely increase walking time... am not sure I would be able to increase time on the elliptical just yet - it's really kicking rear.
I would like, if anyone would not mind helping, some feedback or direction. I'm very eager to get thinner...
Thanks in advance.
Can you tell me if I am doing this correctly?

You sound like you are on the right track, maybe try a spinning class, that will definitely burn a lot of calories and you'll feel great too!
