Kefir digests Lactose and turns Milk into a Yoghurt type substance, but Yoghurt isn't made the same way as I understand it, so don't expect the two to be similar.

You might want to research into pro-biotic and pre-biotic yoghurts to find the difference.

I'm just curious but why does Kefir have Sugar? Kefir works by dissolving Lactose in Milk and turning the Milk into a Yoghurty type substance.

Lactose is a Sugar so if it's dissolved then where's the other Sugar coming from in the Kefir?

The might be a bit of complex Carbohydrate perhaps, but I don't know ehere the "Sugar", would come into it.

Hi Bossman,

I was talking about added sugar in flavored kefir... as amatlack mentioned.... people tend to buy sugary stuff more...
Probiotics need to be taken in sufficient amounts in order to really benefit your health.
2-10 billion CFU (Colony Forming Units) is protective and preventive...while 20 billion daily should be enough if you're recovering from an illness.
To get that much amount of CFU everyday, homemade is a cheaper option.. :-)

I was not aware of flavoured Kefir, I assumed from past research it was a singular product, no varients, so thanks for that.

It might be a good thing for people to take when on anti-biotics, as those can sometimes reduce Gut Flora levels and I believe that might sometimes cause a flare-up of C-Difficile.

Some claim to have even recovered from a flare-up of C-Diff, by having probiotics, rather than 2 weeks in hospital.
