I was picked to be a speaker at TEDx

Post by skully »

I am so excited!

I recieved an amazing phone call today. I am sure some of you have heard of TED, here in the UAE they organize locally-based Tedx basically, and I was approchaed by the organizers to be part of the speakers and talk about experience and approach to health and fitness. Apparently someone stumbled across blog http://www.999-fitness.blogspot.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and said it simply "We want YOU!"

It feels so good when someone wants YOU as a person to come and talk. I am so nervous & public speaking isn't one of strengths at all - so I'll rely on passion to talk. I need to do a lot of brainstorming for the topic as the event is within 3-weeks!

Wish me luck & hit me up with ideas if you have any! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thank you!!!

This is what Ted[x] is http://www.ted.com/tedx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Basically it's a place where speakers (either average jane or joe) or well known people from different areas of expertise come together to speak and share ideas, inspire others, and the like. It's an international event and onstly I am shocked that I have been picked to be one of those people as the list I am presenting with are well-known people in country....and I am just an average person who tweets a lot about health and fitness stuff, struggles, achievements, some tips at times.... :D :D :D

3 years ago, I would have said this was something you would probably never be capable of. You were never really able to stick to anything for longer than a week or so and still had many emotional problems and one or two minor mental flaws as well.

What you have done since then, is come on in leaps and bounds. You have furthered your education, been published and made important steps towards proving the right and place, for physical empowerment of females in your country.

You have described before how your approach to physical wellbeing, is a minority attitude in relation to females and that many don't understand or share the physial ideals you do, not as a direct rebuff to you personally, but to the concept of female strength in general.

Moments like this prove how far you have come and much more extrovert, confident and empowered you have become.

I knew you from the very early days posting on here and for those who have never seen it before, try using the search facility and looking for posts by someone called (rage). Skully's old handle.

You proved a lot of what I said about you back then was possible. You thought it wasn't, but it was and I never doubted you and I'm happy I never did that, because you have grown and blossomed into a wonderful and quite inspiring young Woman.

It's been hard and sometimes difficult for you and indeed people like me, to see you struggling sometimes within yourself and occasionally doubting if what I do can realistically help at all.

All you ever needed to do was prove something to yourself, nobody else and you have done that. You're a strong, beautiful person now and you certainly shine a lot more than you ever did in the darker days and I couldn't be more happy for you :).

I hope that this works out for you and maybe it will mark the beginning of other avenues for you and bigger and better things.

I'm sending you a BIG PAT ON THE BACK.

Seriously well done to you for what you've done in the past 3 years or so. Whatever you may say about this site and certain people on it being part of the process, you had to do a lot of the work yourself.

Nobody here could do your assignments for you, or push you in the gym, or write your published works for you, you did those things pretty much all by yourself and proved a lot to yourself, you never thought could happen.

This site will always be somewhere for you and I hope you'll not be leaving anytime soon. You deserve these opportunities, as you've become a pretty positive rolemodel to people with depressive and negative backrgounds, who think they can't achieve and don't have much self worth, because you're not an exception to a rule, you're very much the rule that proves the exceptions, the exceptions being those that don't want to, or can't see or believe in the light at the end of the tunnel and give up.

I'm seriously, seriously proud of you misses and I hope this event works well for you.

Don't be nervous and just trust in your own abilities and intellect. You're human and that's completely fine, never justify it or apologise for it, unless you absolutely must, because that's not your place to do that, it's others place to accept it or ignore it and move on.

Trust me, you'll be fine, because you DO have what it takes to do this okay :).

GOOD LUCK and WELL DONE on everything. You are a superb young woman, whose come a long way and this is one more great step, on a pretty impressive and pretty inspiring journey and you deserve this :).

Keep up the hard work, keep smiling and no worries alright.

Congrat Skully. I taught at a university and was always in front of people. Practice in front of a mirror so you can see how you move and look.

Boss man, you almost brought tears to eyes. Thank you so much for your kind words, it's the kind of words I needed to hear. A lot of people have been telling me I have to do this and get past over public speaking fears - and I WILL DO IT. I can do it. I'll be funny, I'll be emotional. I'll be honest to self and audience.

I will always think of what you said and keep it at the back of mind. I am really growing and slowly getting out of depressive maniac state. I am happy I have come this far and found a passion that I would love to stick to. Really Boss man, YOU'RE THE BEST MENTOR EVER! :D :D :D :D :D :D

@scott! Thank you! I'll definitely do that, practice a lot, read a lot, and I already know the info at the back of head!
