How many cycles are there & shouldn't you just begin the next one ? As you said the first one was for rapid weight loss, it might of been effective once clearly, but if your body has sent signals to your brain its being starved, starving it more probably isn't the answer.

I am on the second cycle which was where additional foods have been added, so the starvation factor shouldn't exist. Metabolism should be re-set and burning, burning, burning....

There are 4 cycles, the two I mentioned above, each cycle with a 17 day duration. The third cycle is where additional foods are re-introduced as you continue to develop good eating habits. In this cycle you should get closer to, if not meet your goal weight but in this cycle the weight loss is expected to slow down. The 4th cycle is pretty much a maintenance program to keep you at your goal weight. If you have additional weight to lose you might want to start over with cycle 1.

Ok - I didn't go workout yet, had to do some house cleaning - now need to start figuring out what we'll have for dinner. Guess I'll workout after dinner, before IDOL~! For those who watch American Idol - whoa!!! What a great group of talented singers, especially the girls!! I don't remember them booting 5 at a time last year, although last year they ALL should've been booted ;) I don't know why it has to be equal boys and girls - they will be sending home some very talented girls and keeping some mediocre boys :( Karen, Thia, Lauren and Pia are absolutely amazing! Not to mention Kendra and Haley....what a crew! For the boys I love Robbie and Jacob!

Well I know when I did the carbohydrate cut, long ago & it was supposed to be for 2 weeks only...I dropped 10 lbs..however thinking more was better I kept on that diet for an additional 4 weeks & STILL didn't lose anymore weight.Though during that time energy level sucked during workouts. If this guy is supposed to be teaching " good eating habits " he has failed already, by removing essential foods.Starting to wonder how the show " the doctors " would condone / promote such a diet.

I totally disagree.

The first cycle offers lean protein, fruits, probiotics and tons of cleansing veggies, eliminating processed foods and sugars - in a matter of days your cholesterol levels can drop, matter of weeks blood levels of important disease fighting antioxidants like Vit C and E are higher and your bowels are in better working order. If you were so inclined before, chunks of fast food no longer need to be filtered from your blood and LDL cholesterol can drop by as much as 30%. In general your health numbers will improve or begin to normalize (BP, Glucose, insulin) Granted it is carb deficient in the first 17 days, but those are added back in over time..... it does NOT condone what you did - carbs are essential, 2 weeks was probably all you should have done...similar to the 17 day concept.

food intake now is similar to what I ate before (when I wasn't cheating and/or binging) and I consider it very healthy. To say this doctor has failed and how other doctors could condone it is a bit over the top. It doesn't appear you are listening, but reacting within your own bias. Frankly it seems every idea I've come up with to combat own demons seems to "fail" with you. Everyone shows you tremendous support for all you have done - many may disagree with your methods and/or results, but understand how important it is to you. While I want honest feedback, please resist bashing where it is not necessary. Thank you and good luck.

I think I made it pretty clear that this diet required 2 servings of fruit - which allows for more than 20g of carbs daily. In the second cycle legumes, starchy vegetables, and natural starches as well as shellfish and lean cuts of meat. Sounds pretty healthy to me :).

I never restricted vegetable carbohydrates & still ate fruit. The only thing I counted was the carbohydrates from grains & I still lost weight. Now as a professional in the health field, I can't support the diet you are currently on per say. On the other hand I do wish you all the success because I know you are a great person. dislike of the diet, wasn't meant to be personal. If it was construed as such, I apologize.

ldematto wrote:The 2nd Cycle that we are currently in is specifically meant to "reset your metabolism by increasing and decreasing caloric consumption to stimulate fat burning and to help prevent plateaus."
as stated by Dr. Moreno who is a graduate of the University of California at Irvine and Hahneman Medica School (now Drexel University) who now practices family medicine and sits on the board of the San Diego Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Simply stated above in plain language as is his entire book, but the food plan is designed to stimulate your metabolism to burn calories - by eating lean proteins, fruits, veggies and small amounts of grains - healthy foods, the stuff we should all be eating anyway. With these foods we get the body to store the good (health building nutrients) and expel the bad (fat and toxins) by retraining your digestive system and your metabolism. The "reset" is probably similar to your "carb cycling" as referenced in other journals as follows:

wt days - high having 50 - 70g from any source but you'll need some simple carbs for fast absorption either pre/peri or post workout
cardio days - 25 - 40g from veg and fruit
off days = 5 - 20g from fruit and veg but veg only is best here

I lost another .6 lb

Keep up the good work, Lu!
Thank you Allison :)

Fancy title? The book cost a mere $27 - it provided me with the framework to achieve some success. I needed a blow by blow daily regimen to follow without having to count calories etc, and yes, it's working! :D

The book now cost only $12.92~! So for anyone who wants to try the 17 Day Diet, go to http://www.the17daydiet.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you can read all about it too.

I lost another .8 lbs :)

Saturday morning Workout Partner (Nancy - I prob didn't tell you about her) will be here any minute. We do a pretty rigorous workout - then at 1 PM I'm going to a beginner's Yoga Class with Electrolysis gal....should be fun! The instructor specializes in Svaroopa Yoga :) Before this I never heard of it, but apparently it takes care of you from the inside out :)

Have a great day!

Great day today! Warmed up with 50 Windmills...Did 20 minutes, 8 Sprints on the treadmill at level 5.
Medicine Ball Squat, reach - 3 x 30
Incline Flyes 3 x 30
Lat Pulldowns 3 x 15, 50 lbs
Weighted Squats with Smith - 3 x 15 - 90 lbs
Single Arm Rows - 3 x 10, 25 lbs

90 Minutes Svaroopa Yoga - Apparently Svaroopa is a technique for opening your body to find your self. We practiced what they call The Magic Four - . This practice creates a core opening by releasing the tensions in the deepest layers of your body. The instructor was very good and this Free class is a great way for her to introduce her business, but it's not for me. I am thinking of taking a class through the town that focuses on your butt, abs and back.

Today's Food

Wake Up Drink - hot water with lemon

Breakfast - Dr. Mike's Cookie and Orange Green Tea
Snack - Kefir Smoothie - 1 c blueberries, 1 c plain Kefir, 1 scoop Vanilla Whey Protein Powder <--delicious!
Lunch - Breast of Chicken with lots of broccoli, Green Tea
Orange before 2 PM
Dinner - Tenderloin, small red potato, onions with green peppers and fresh strong beans w/few almond slices, Green Tea
Snack - 1 cup plain Kefir with protein powder.

Tons of water.

Since today was carb day I decided to get some more exercise - so walked on the treadmill for 4 miles at 3.6 mph. Can't imagine losing weight with what I ate today, but I've been surprised before on this diet. Of course I'm not suppose to weigh myself every day!
