Both hubby and I are trying to lose weight (I've lost 10 pounds so far)..
I'm 33, 5'7 and weigh 193 (maintenance calories 1,943); workout 4-5 per week for the past two months
hubby is 38, 5'4 and weighs 170 (maintenance calories 1,924); is starting to workout slowly 2-3 per week
If I begin us on a 1200 a day diet, would this be extreme? Any recommendations would be much appreciated! Thanks.
Is 1200 calories too little?

Re: Is 1200 calories too little?
Thanks for the info! We will start out on perhaps around 1600. We work out together too.
We inspire each other. We have a 15 month old baby girl, so we've invested in jump ropes, dumbbells, eliptical machine, and workout videos. We do everything at home and is working out great.

Sedentary average for females is 1,800 a day, men 2,000.
You could actually go about 200 calories above maintenance in all honesty, because the caloric burn could be 350+ per workout, allowing for you to create a below maintenance level, because you'd be creating a deficeit of around 100-150, maybe more.
You could also burn more Fat after you workout, because the metabolism would be increased, until that is you consumed more calories, then the body would try to use / burn those instead.
You're the person I'm thinking of that has the Hashimotos aren't you? I don't bring that up out of negativity, I just mention it because it always gives me a lot of pride, to see people in a situation like yours, not letting it control them and be strong enough to stand up to the issues they face and tackle them like you're doing and I applaud you whole-heartedly for your actions.
I've always been sure you are a superb rolemodel to your little one and I'm hoping you and fluffball are doing well
.
It's great to know you and hubby are working as a kind of team, to change for the better. It will give your child even more of an education in life, when they have two people with a better understanding of health and physical happiness to learn from, because in America, many institutions or organisations do little to teach children when young, the risks of poor living, so your child will be getting two parents with a better understanding and more to pass on to them, which can only serve to be a good thing.
It's good to see you back and I really wish the both of you well. If you need any help, support, or just an outlet to talk about the things that are making life sometimes feel a bit negative, come and talk to us anytime about anything and we as a community wil try what we feel is best to help you and support you with every step you take towards a better you
.
Keep pushing and keep looking on the positive side and remember that you're both human and sometimes you will make mistakes and you won't always get the same levels of weekly success as each other, but by being a team, you and hubby can push each other and motivate each other and you will undoubtedly gain a greater marital strength because of it.
I'm happy for you and I hope it all works out
GOOD LUCK and very best wishes. You DESERVE to be so proud of yourself, for your actions and the clearly tough admissions in the past, about your life and the things you face, because people like you really do humble me
