Re: Lu's Workout Journal
I just finished watching a show on the Doctors show. Dr. Mike Moreno was a guest as well as 2 Teams, Dr. Phil Team and Doctor's Team - both teams had been on the 17 Day Diet Program and had great success. I "get" people's concerns about the limited food , but what works for one may not work for all. This is working for me - prior to binging and gaining all the weight I am now losing, I tried for a long time to do it "right", whatever right is. What it did for me was completely UNmotivate me and resulted in eating and gaining....as I said I needed a positive boost. This diet has given me that and I really don't think it's much of a deviation from what we all boast should be our diets....I look back at Food Journals and these are the foods we all agree are healthy.
Bossman - after I add back the starchy carbs, what am I missing in your opinion that makes this diet unhealthy? What would you add on a daily basis? I'd like to build on this food plan and would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks Lynn - you are soooo funny! March 13th is next stop-:)

Oh so it IS the young doctor from the doctors show ? When I seen him on there the man was stressing " you don't have to give anything up ", maybe its a different doctor ?.
Re: Lu's Workout Journal
The one who wrote the book is not a regular doctor on the show. I missed the very first part of the showBonnie wrote:Oh so it IS the young doctor from the doctors show ? When I seen him on there the man was stressing " you don't have to give anything up ", maybe its a different doctor ?.

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Well if they boast a 15 lb loss & you've reached 13, then research would indicate you should lose the amount they say for the second phase.I do admire your strict adherence
Yeah the doctor who wrote the book is HOT.

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Here I am in the 3rd day of the second 17 day cycle and I haven't lost a pound. I made the Dr. Mike's Cookies that were to be used as a starchy carb - has wheat flour, oatmeal, protein powder, dry cherries, sliced almonds and some other stuff - VERY tasty - had one for breakfast the first day, with an orange and the green tea. Had another for snack (all ok with the program) Today (Day 3) had oatmeal for breakfast - yum!
Workout yesterday
Circuits, 1 minute each 3 sets
Medicine Ball - squat bring ball between legs, stand up and raise ball way over head -anyone know what that is called?
Incline Flyes - 8 lb DB's
Side/Front Raises - 8 lb DB's
Lat Pull Downs 50 lbs
Single Arm Rows - 3 x 12 -25 lb DB
Squats - 3 x 10 - 95 lbs
Sprints (8) 20 minute Cycle on Treadmill.
Have a great day!

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
If you're adding calories back in then it shouldn't be a problem, I was more concerned at a plan saying be very restrictive in the first week or so, as I don't see the need for that. Creating some rapid weight loss in the first week or two isn't necessary, if having a slightly greater amount of calories, means taking an extra 1-2 weeks to lose the weight instead, because the extra calories will give you more nutrition for the body to use.ldematto wrote: Bossman - after I add back the starchy carbs, what am I missing in your opinion that makes this diet unhealthy? Someone could have a diet in belief, that advocates the same caloric intake, after week 2, in the first 2 weeks as well, so you're not getting a potentially inadequate intake of some or more micronutrients for a couple of weeks.
There is no one size fits all, as it's all about what works for some might not work for others, especially when intolerances or other metabolic issues, like Thyroid and Parathyroid problems come into the equation, so it's not me saying such a plan is hideous, but I just don't see the need for a plan with a good solid foundation, to have a "very restrictive calorie" pretext, when the majority of what is being espoused could be the case from the start.
The main thing is you're sticking to it and you're doing what you think is best for you. I've always admired your perseverence and willingness, to embrace a new way of living after many years of less productve lifestyle habits and that admiration will never go away.
You're a superb person Lu and I wish you luck in everything you do. I speak out of mild concern and with an ounce of honesty and logical reasoning and I'm sure you never thought anything else.
Keep pushing, keep believing and GOOD LUCK. You are and always will be a very worthwhile part of the community

Thank you Bossman
I always appreciate your honest, thoughtful and knowledgeable answers to all our questions. We, the members of this community, are very lucky to have found you...oh! and the site too!
Today was a carb day, had oatmeal this morning - I surely missed it, it was so good! I added a cup of blueberries, a bit of flax, cinnamon and about 1/4 cup of Kefir. and of course Green Tea
For snack I had some red grapes - lunch a chicken breast and some delicious brussell sprouts. Ate a Dr. Mike's cookie for afternoon snack, and pork tenderloin , small salad and broccoli for dinner. I'm stuffed!!! Back to no carbs tomorrow.
I didn't get to exercise today, but went shopping and did lots of walking.
Have a great day!

Readily available in the Dallas area at Whole Foods Markets and a few others too. I'm sure it's there but you just didn't notice it before. I never heard of it either until I started this diet, and now I see it almost everywheremusculargirl wrote:kefir isin't a yankee thing. or at least not a midwest thing. maybe it's a new england thing.

Today back to no starchy carbs. Around 2:30 I thought I missed second fruit so jammed some grapes in - then realized I already had tow - I forgot the blueberries topped with Kefir that I had around 10:30 - hope I didn't screw diet up! Can't imagine a few grapes would do that - LOL
Workout today was simple - 50 Windmills, a couple of sets of 1 minutes holding the medicine ball, squatting then up and over head..still don't know what it's called. 30 minutes on the Treadmill with 8 Sprints.
I'm not weighing myself until next Thursday, one week from the new 17 day Cycle.
Have a great day!
Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Kefir is a type of grain I believe, grown all over the world.
People grow it and usually so much you can get it sent for free. you put it in Milk and depnding on how you like it, you leave it for 12-36 hours and it digests the Lactose and turns the Milk into a Yoghurt type substance.
Great for the Lactose intolerant, although how long it would take for the Lactose to be completely dissolved I'm not sure, as it would also be dependant on how much Milk you use in relation to Kefir.

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Yesterday did Sprints on the treadmill, 20 minutes, 8 sprints. 50 Windmills and 2 sets of 35 reps squat with medicine ball, then stand and reach over head and incline flyes. 2 sets of 20 Lat Pull downs, 50 lbs.
Am following the new phase of the 17 Day Diet and haven't lost a lb
Good news is I haven't gained a lb either. I had to weigh myself, wasn't going to until Thursday - oh well...- I feel better and definitely look better, clothes fit me better...guess we'll see.
Have a great day!

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
I lost .6 of a lb. Going in the right direction but based on what this book says, I should have lost more than that. I'm going to have to make sure I'm eating foods to the letter - maybe I'm doing something wrong. I am exercising - yesterday only 45 minutes on the treadmill at a steady pace. HR was at 70-85% of Max until the last few minutes - when it raced to over 180! I stopped and started again thinking the machine was malfunctioning, but it went right to 191 - so just to be safe I got off and stopped all together. I did not FEEL like HR was that high - oh well, I'll watch it.
Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Had mine in the 190's a week or so ago, with sprints on the treadmill, felt fine too. However not sure of the accuracy of those machines anyway.
Just two cents, but does this diet mention by the second phase, sometimes the body will finally take a stand against the restrictions.Seems to me that might be whats going on.Hows your husbands loss ?

Yes, I'm not too worried about the HR - the machine was probably malfunctioning.Bonnie wrote:Had mine in the 190's a week or so ago, with sprints on the treadmill, felt fine too. However not sure of the accuracy of those machines anyway.

Cycle One is meant to promote rapid weight loss by improving digestive health, helping to clear sugar from the blood to boost fat-burning and discourage fat storage.
The 2nd Cycle that we are currently in is specifically meant to reset your metabolism by increasing and decreasing caloric consumption to stimulate fat burning and to help prevent plateaus. You are suppose to continue to lose weight....
husband has lost a total of 20.6 lbs, so he has lost 3.6 lbs since we've been on this cycle (he did have more to lose and guys typically lose faster than gals) - but both of us clearly slowing down. I may not be eating enough!?! But I've tracked high calorie intake days and I'm averaging around 1300-1400, vs around 900 on the off days. It's funny, I'm hungrier on this cycle than I was on the first one. If I don't lose more weight by the end of this cycle, I will go back on the first one. I have 14 more lbs to go!
I'm off to workout - probably do some weights and the treadmill. Will play it by ear

Have a great day!
