Spot Reduction. The Intruiging Evidence

Post by Boss Man »

I have for some time believed Spot Reduction is notoriously difficult, though not impossible.

Now the Danes, the people that analysed human poo, to prove high Calcium diets can help lose fat, bring you the the skinny on Spot Reduction, Scandinavian stylee.

I found this somewhere else.

Enjoy

it says they did leg extensions which above all else recruits the vastus medialis which the teardrop shaped muscle on the inside of the thigh above the knee

it also said that it took 2 hours of leg ext (!!!) to lose fat which would have more than most likely come from that particular muscle but obviously not all

one question comes to mind...if you wanted lose to spot reduce from the glute muscles (the bigest in the body) how many sets and time would it take????

Not sure.

I did read something from someone I know of, who is a PT and Figure Competitor that one thing she tried, was to do Giant sets, then Cardio.

Apparently the Giant sets break Fat down, and the Cardio finishes it off.

whoa, what a breakthrough.
sounds more like endurance training to me though .. high rep high weight ..
but doesnt this article suggest that if you try spot-reduction on your lower abs, that if you do leg-raises for 30 minutes it'll reduce the fat around there?

i mean it makes sense because of the blood flow stuff, but it also doesnt because it would literally work wonders for hundreds of people. ..

It wouldn't work wonders for hundreds of people for certain reasons.

1. Their diet might not be good enough. Any possible Spot Reduction won't work with an average diet.

2. The quality of the work might not be good. If you're not getting good Abs work, I.E. technique, rep duration, you lose potential Spot Reduction capability.

WHAT!!!? Leg extensions for 1/2 an hour? and then the other leg for 2 hours AT HIGHER WEIGHT!!!? Who were their subjects? Robots? How is that possible?

Is it even possible to do bench presses for 30 minutes straight even if you lifted 50% or less of your Max? Maybe 35-45 reps would be to failure for me in that weight, which would definitely take less than 5 minutes.

[Hyper-extremely] High rep, High weight, huh!? Seems like an oxymoron. You'd not be able to move way before you reach that high rep.

I wish spot reduction works anyway.

No I don't think they advocate Bench pressing for 30 minutes solid I think they did get set breaks.

Interesting read, but I really don't buy it. There are studies out there proving and disproving pretty much everything. Every fact out there has a study to prove it's not true. There may be correlation, but not causation. I still good with good old fashion physiology that I have studied. But that's just opinion!
