For a while now I have been feeling some sort of anxiety before working out. I am not sure what's the root cause of it, but sometimes I feel like I dislike seeing certain people at the gym (although I don't dislike them personally). Sometimes I feel very intimidated by others and what they do and tend to lose focus on myself. heart actually beats faster sometimes & I hate it when I go to the gym and someone is using a machine or equipment that I need to use for one exercise or so....
I never used to feel like this before, but recently. I hate comparing myself with others, I really do...but I can't seem to help notice how well others are doing cause they either have a spotter, or trainer and I don't.

Frankly there's no need to feel intimidated. The other people who go there are not likely to be intimidated by you, so why should you be intimidated by them?
When was the first time you actually felt like this?

Re: Anxious before working out
Not long time ago, just recently when seeing two people (fit) people training with each other, both of which I know...and one becoming interested in lifting heavy and is new to it, but lifts heavier than me and at a quick rate...even tho haven't been doing it for not more than 2 months, while me in 1 year and three. bleh. >.>
Re: Anxious before working out
That could be to do with higher testosterone, more natural build in the first place, better initial muscle to fat ratio, but that shouldn't bother you. Maybe they are using poor technique and lifting more without good technique.
Maybe their range of motion is smaller, because they are shorter permitting more development, because they can use a little more weight, when there's smaller time under tension.
The fact is forget them. What they do has no relevance to you, unless they hog the equipment, or give you attitude, just do what you do and don't worry about it.

Re: Anxious before working out
I do admit one is more naturally built than I am, hell, she doesn't even need to workout her legs as they're obviously built, but she is "meaty" I won't say fat, but she is not lean in that sense and I admit, she's also been exercising regulary than me, just not with weights.
While the other one, is actually BB and have been doing it for 3 years. A lot of their form is not actually good with SOME big lifts, ie, front squats, they round their back a lot, I know I only squat ith 25kgs max but I am still keeping form good.
They don't really give me trouble with equipment much, we just have a clsh a lot with the smith machine, as we all come around the same time, and the two of them alternate while using them....while I have to wait till they finish a set of EIGHT (4 each) before I can go at times. So I end up changing program and sometimes get stick doing smaller lifts before the big ones and it bothers me. =S

Re: Anxious before working out
Find an alternative exercise in that case. I don't find it a problem. I've had times when I want to Smith Squat and just simply can't so I do Extensions.
Other times I juggle the order around and do an exercsie a bit later one, but I do eventually do it.
It's only a real problem if you make it one

But this happens too often. For example, I HAVE TO do the deadlift first thing. Cuz its the one exercise I can lift theh eaviest and sucks 50% of the energy out of me. So I do otheer things at first, I won't be able to progress with it. =(...agh. I mean ya, I'd juggle things around ,but I have to move exercise 2 ahead of the one I want to do because they use the machines for EIGHT sets in total, taking up about 15-20 minutes on it. In which I would've finished 2 exercises!
