Best way to re-start after week off...

Post by OneTrak »

Hello,
I have taken the last week off from working out do to being sick. I am wondering should I jump right back in where I left off or should I work back into it slowly?

Here is what I've been doing 5 X 5 :
Mon.
Squat
Dead-lift
Overhead press
Bench
Pull Ups

Tue.
Cardio: Morning on treadmill 40 minutes
Evening on Bike Trainer 30 minutes

Wed.
Squat
Dead-lift
Overhead press
Bench
Pull ups

Thurs.
Cardio Morning on treadmill 40 minutes
Evening on Bike Trainer 30 minutes

Fri.
Squat
Dead-lift
Overhead press
Bench
Pull ups

Sat.
Cardio Treadmill only 40 minutes

Sun. Day Off

goals are to get stronger, lose weight, and be ready for cycling whenever springs finally shows up.
Thanks For your input.

I'd say go for it. If you've been consistently following the schedule you provided, then you're already in pretty good shape and one week off should have minimal impact.

It really depends on what you were sick from. I've taken a week off every now and then due to work stress, headaches, injuries etc and was able to just jump straight back in it. But when I had to take a fortnight off due to the flu, I couldn't just pick it all back up again. I had to drop weights back and decrease cardio times and intensity. I felt like I was starting from the beginning all over again.

Give yourself a go at continuing where you left off, but if you're not physically feeling well enough to perform at the old level, drop it back and ease into it. It may take a week, two or more to get back there, but you will eventually.
