One side of chest larger!!

Post by patrick427 »

I'm kind of new to all this, and am not sure what is the best way to go about balancing the difference in size between chest sides. One side (pec) is a bit larger than the other.
I have been told that doing push ups will balance it out, other people have said to add weight, and/or work the smaller side harder/longer than the other. But then some folks have said if you work the other side harder, or with more weight you can cause another imbalance??

I go to the gym every other day, I warm up on a precor machine for about 5-8 minutes, then go in and do a varied routine in the weightroom,( bench press, barbell flys, cable crosses, cybex machines, and of course sit-ups!) for about 30-40 minutes, finally back to a precor (eliptical) to do cardio for 20-25 minutes.
I am trying to figure out the best way to balance this out, and to get myself in decent shape.
I was in the hospital for a while, and now I am cleared to exercise! (yea!) So I really am trying to get in the best shape I can, but need a bit of help with this.
Any info/input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

perform single arm db chest presses...aim for 3 x 10 but only do on your strong side what your weak side does (wt, sets and reps) until it catches up...your not just working chest are you??? do not do any bb or machine work as the strong side will do all th work

Swanso.... at the gym I go to there is a chest press machine where each arm is seperate and you put plates on each side. Would that work also? Patrick asked a good question. Im actually in a similar situation. I had a collapsed lung on left side and it is not a strong as right. You can even see that the one side is a little smaller. (the machine may be called a plate loaded press. Not sure. Its on a little bit of an incline.

the lung thing will be playing a part and yo may never be as strong or as big on that side...that exercise would still work but it's a machine and machines aren't as good free wts...as long as you do free wt movements first you can put in though for a couple of sets
