I am a previous pharmaceutical rep and was a Gastrointestinal Specialist so called on the Gastroenterologists and "hung out" with them all day long in endoscopy suites for internships. I also just had first colonoscopy just last month. The preps that are prescribed now a days are Miralax, a tasteless powder, that you mix with any liquid - usually up to 64 oz ingested over an 8 hour period followed up by some form of another laxative such as Dulcolax. The "wonderful" stuff I was given was a form of a sodium phospate- absolutely horrendous! I had to drink 64 oz of it and it was like drinking a lemon salt water. The pharmacist "flavors" it with a choice of cherry, pineapple, lemon or lime- but believe me whatever "taste" you choose, it won't help! I had to hold nose and gulp the stuff just to get it down. I was lucky I didn't throw up. If your doctor wants to prescribe the salt related laxative tell him you can't have sodium-you will thank me! The colonscopy is very safe. The cleansing is especially important because if you don't cleanse your colon fully, the Gastroenterologist will not be able to complete the procedure effectively- see any polyps etc. Without a thorough cleansing, it's like looking through really thick muddy water- not good for the doctor and actually a waste of your time and his! After the procedure you might think "ooh, I want to go out and have a burger etc- don't! Keep it light - crackers, bread, rice and soup, jello, etc.Hope feedback helps! Feel free to ask more. Been there, done that! Oh, by the way, I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and the doc found a polyp that was precancerous. If nothing is found in your scope, you won't have to get another one for 10 years. In case, I have to have a repeat in only 3 years. Well worth the few days of misery!

You can take things for IBS, like Mobeverine based products which is one, as I'm sure you may be aware, but hopefully the Polyp will be sorted out soon.

Good luck to you.
