100 Push-up challenge

Post by learner_1 »

Has anyone here tried the 100 push-up challenge?

I really want to get some definition in arms. At this point I can barely muster out 3 push-ups. I thought this might really help me. Anyone tried it?

push ups work the chest primary and triceps secondary

Well that depends on the position of your hands...your arms at or wider than shoulder width will work the chest more, but a closer position yields more emphasis on the chest. I'm sure you know this

And no I haven't tried the 100 push up challenge, but it does sound pretty challenging. I might be able to muster up 100 in a DAY, but thats about it...wait...are we talking clappers or one-arms?? haha jk

I can manage 70 at a go. But I prefer 50 properly executed push-ups to 70 rushed movements. I have not known push-ups to really work the arms
... Sure you will hit the arms but it is mainly a chest exercise. That's a close-up of chest. That is more or less what push-ups will get you. Hope this helps.

Wide push ups focus on the chest. The closer you put your hands the more your triceps get worked. Your shoulders are also getting some work.

Yep, it's what got me back into working out. I can do the hundred if I speed through them with good form... and like Williamteo, I can do 70+ properly at once. Odd thing is though, I usually need a good warm-up set of about 50 to do 70+ the next set.

I have been working out in gym from last six months but just able to complete 30 push ups. For 100 push ups you need to work out at least for 3 years. You need to work out on push ups daily and increase the speed after you gain some strength in your arms and shoulders. uncle does 150 push ups everyday, looking at there fitness and body i really got inspired and started workout.

Hope you complete 100 push ups one day.
All the best!!!!

you do not need to work out for 3 years to complete 100 pushups. It's just silly to generalize that way. That's like saying it takes 1 year to lose 20 lbs. It may for some people but certainly not for everyone.

i recently found the 100 push-up challenge, it is a good routine. i did 1 week and kept forgetting to do it.

over the summer a guy i worked started working out, so i did too. at first i could only get like 5 push-ups, after 2 months i could do 30 without stopping. just do some push-ups every hour. if your max is 3 do 3 first day you might only get 20 push-ups in all day, but eventually you will be doing 100+ push-ups in a day

(now i do 20 push-ups every half mile of run instead of the 100 push-up challenge i have a goal of 50 push-ups without stopping, and think this will be better)

hmmm thats not bad i do the count down from 20 pushups throught out day because i dont want to be hurting,
but also when doing a high number of push ups dont forget to strenthen your hands and wrists.

I could do 160 pushups when I was in college and weighed much less.

I had gotten up to 93 a few months ago but grew tired of the exercise.

I do have a "push up day" and on that day I do 2 sets of 60, and 8 sets of 40 reps.

I can push out 75 reps in a set now (especially if there were a money bet on the outcome).

You need to get to the point where you can do 4 sets of 10 reps before you can consider working towards the 100 reps.

Right now, once or twice a week do 4 sets for your maximum. Once you can get 4 sets of 10, post again and we can advise you of a course of action to get to the 100 reps.

You might be better served, however, by working all the muscles in your body equally. You will gain tone and move better. After you have gained a good, balanced physique you can specialize on pushups.

I found a 100 pushup app for iPhone in august. I did the initial set and could only do 13 pushups. The app instructs you to take a few days off after that. Then on 'day 1 week 1' it had me do small amounts of pushups. It has you do 5 sets. Week 1, day 1 was 10,12,7,7,9 pushups(45 total). By week 3, day 2, sets were 20,25,15,15,25(100 total). At that point brother flew in from arizona, and I took the week off from the gym and have been struggling to get back.

Either way, I am positive that the app works as do 'programs' out there. I haven't been able to do 100 straight but if I worked with the app for 3 months straight I know I could do it. Don't hesitate to try, and at least give it 2-3 weeks for it to prove its reliability.
