Yes indeed it is fascinating, I look forward to reading more :)

The shoulder & neck pain is more, rhomboids, traps, deltoids & neck extensors. However the pushups will help because basically, the back pack is loaded on the shoulder girdle & upper back, so the chest will need to be strengthened to counter balance that.Damn cuts to the school system affecting children's posture now, that sucks.Besides the looking down stretch, add the ear to shoulder with head slightly forward towards chest.Make sure when in the stretch to have the shoulder girdle depressed.

PS: You should try favorite treat. Get a little tub of Greek yogurt (6 oz?), add a tablespoon or two of almond butter, and a splash of maple syrup to taste. It should do you better than the bagel.
I know I can't eat one everyday - and it's funny, I had never had one EVER until this week. I read on a running website that a bagel with a bit of PB was like the perfect pre-run food, so I thought I would give it a try for Sunday run. The only problem with that was it was SO good that I am wanting one every morning - with or without a run.  I like your idea of greek yogurt and adding the almond butter.
The almond butter I have is just a sample individual serving pacK:
Image
Ingredients: Dry Roasted Almonds, Maple Sugar, Organic Palm Fruit Oil, Sea Salt.
Cal. 190 / Fat 16g. / carb 8g. / protein 6g. / Sugar 4g.
Found these at Walmart - I am in love.
The bagel is 270 calories / Fat 1g. / carb 56g  / sugar 5g.
that's not SO bad, is it? I could run 2 extra miles - burn that baby right off!

yes it does. I feel so sorry for these kids when i watch them coming out of school loaded down with these heavy backpacks. They aren't even able to walk correctly! They are bent forward and their stride is not normal. Thanks for the advice on stretches - will def. do those. :D

yeah, I saw the jar, just couldn't bring myself to spend almost $5 for it. Wanted to make sure I at least like it first. And since I do, I may splurge on myself and get it. I actually like the little packs because it is already measured out for me, and I can't cheat on serving size.

A nutritionist gave a talk before one of our group runs. She is also a marathoner. She warned us about "the bagel myth". She told us, "Yeah, if your run is a long one lasting a couple hours". Warned us away from pasta too.

I think I could easily just eat half the bagel - that would save me 135 calories. A whole one really fills me up. In fact the last two days I ate one for a late breakfast (10:30 a.m.) I was not hungry until around 3:00 p.m.

Todays workout:

3.5 mile tempo hill run
Ran regular 3.5 mile hill loop. Kept a good pace & finished 2 minutes faster than last Thursdays time! :D I am hoping that is in part to a bit of weight loss and also the HIIT work. Still have a ways to go to get to the times I want to be at for racing, but progress is being made! son ran ahead of me and finished nearly 3 minutes faster than his time last week.

Diet hasn't been the greatest today - not bad foods, just haven't eaten enough.
Breakfast: 10:30 a.m. - bagel w/almond butter
Lunch: Kashi granola bar (I was out of pocket - no food with me)
Dinner: roasted chicken breast with salad & homemade dressing

hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks guys!
Breakfast: sausage & scrambled egg
Lunch: grilled chicken breast / steamed veggies / spanish rice with chopped veggies & fresh made salsa (yummm)
(we went to a mexican restaurant for lunch - so I got the healthiest thing I could find on the menu)
Dinner: not sure yet - it may be fajita quesadillas or grilled chicken salad.

Workout:
1 minute - jumping jack
1 minute - burpees
1 minute - pushups
1 minute - plank
1 minute - mountain climber
1 minute - bicycle crunch
repeat 4 times

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. It's boy's birthday this weekend - Pizza and cake. I am trying to find a recipe for a "Diabetic Pizza" so dad can have some pizza too. Any ideas?

how does this one sound? I think I could make it pretty easily - plus I would add fresh mushrooms and frozen spinach, maybe some lean turkey sausage?

Not sure where you live, but grandmother used to poke her finger 30 years ago & read it ? She was type 1 & currently father is type 2.His wife is also type 2, how is this related ?..Its not hers is pure up obesity caused, unfortunately.Yeah allison I always thought it was all about sugar too.I've just started learning how its more related to the actual spike in blood sugar from foods & the production & release of insulin from the pancreas, to try & level the blood to where it should be.Les & her brain/blood thingy made me curious ;) Now I want to know about the brain & food sources :) Oh & heya lynn, something tells me you will be at page 200 in no time :D

Todays workout:
5.5 mile hill endurance run. Steady pace. Met up with some runners who are training for a marathon in January. I started out running with them, keeping their pace (which is faster than mine). Ran the first mile with them, then they turned off to continue their route, and I went on with mine. I consider these guys to be the "big dogs" in our running club. I caught myself a few times making the reference that I wanted to hang out with the "big dogs" and that I just wanted to be "seen" with them. They just laughed and said like "whatever!". But later when I was running by myself, I thought about that. In a way, I was indirectly putting myself down, like I wasn't good enough to be running with them. The ladies that were running were so thin and tiny - I outweighed them by a good 30lbs. - so....you know me...I felt like a big Clydesdale next to them. I still have so much work to do on self image.
On a good point....and to illustrate point about self image - I was running a loop route and I passed this guy who was walking several times, and each time I did he would say things like "I'm tired just watching you..." then next time it was "how far are you running at that pace?" to which I replied "around 5.5 or 6 miles", and he said "wow, are you training for a marathon?" !! :D So, the lesson here is that the way we perceive ourselves is not always the way we appear to everyone else. To him, I was the "big dog", and it made me realize that i was beating myself up for nothing. At least I was out there working, and doing something good and healthy.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I do the same thing. I unrealistically think I should be able to compete, at the age of 56, with the 30 somethings. After last 5K I was down on myself because of performance, But, when I saw the overall race results I found that I finish well into the first half of the pack. I also got to remember there aren't that many people age out there to begin with.
