Saturated Fats

When trying to lower the bad clorestoral, I read that I need to lower saturated fat (and of course never eat trans fats). I use olive oil when I cook chicken, egg white etc. I also eat nuts for protien & use margerine that has olive oil base (Smart Balance). So when using these product they have saturated fats. Should I limit saturated fats in way that the poly & unsaturated fats don't even things out. I need omega 3 oils in diet & take pills but use oils when I can for cooking.

Some foods can have different Fats, like Poly, Mono and Saturated together. If the food has mostly the good kind and a bit of Saturated, then you don't need to worry.

When you can, keep your saturates pretty low. Some foods that are healthy can have a little bit in, but 2 or 3 grams is not that bad, though where possible, don't be tempted to add or use any saturate sources, to food or during preparation of food.

Hopefully that explains things. Sorry you got overlooked with your question, it sometimes happens on messageboards, and we do value people like you, who use the site properly, so don't take it the wrong way yeah :).

nuts won't give you much protein, also pack a tin or 2 of tuna for that meal in addition to nuts etc

The nuts I eat are mixed nuts they give me 6g of protien(1oz), plus its good fats..thats why I eat them. Good calorie count too. 170 for 1oz.

I eat tuna twice a week, I use tuna in water(can), drain it then add 1T of olive oil.

Nuts aren't that high Protein as you posted, 1OZ is 6g, plus the Fat calories still need to be watched, even if they are from unsaturated sources.

Also choose low Salt Nuts if you don't already, as you don't want to potentially boost your Salt intake above 6g a day, and risk Arterial problems, Water retention, and other unwanted things.

really never said they were high in protien but at 115 lb 6g of protien added to other protien adds up. I was referring to nuts as whole. Even though I commented on the protein in nuts.

Calories, 170 which I need, good fats 4.5 poly, 7 mono, fiber 2g. Plus magnesium & manganese. Thanks about the salt intake I'll look it to that the ones I eat have 110mg per oz., which I only eat an oz. a day, (sometime 2oz max, but rarely) just as a quick snack, usually add dried fruit with it.

Also, don't necessarily eat ones like Cashews too much, they're around GI 22. One I think of only two actual GI Nuts, the others might be Peanuts.

If you use sources like Almonds, Hazelnuts etc etc, being 0 GI, they shouldn't have any effect on Bloodsugar.

So if you eat Cashews, keep them for occasional consumption.

Glycemic Index. The list by which many foods with Carbohydrates, are assessed for their affects on Bloodsugar.

O great another thing to worry about.lol..luckily sugar (blood work) is good, but want to keep it that way.
