Thanks guys! I want to stay on this wave of losing weight now. All I can think that I did differently was pay more attention to food. I had gotten in a bad habit of not eating enough during the day, then getting home from work and just mindlessly snacking. A bite here, bite there - it adds up. Plus I had been dealing with some sort of food aversion. All I would want to eat for dinner was a PB&J with chips. Bad, bad, bad. I would cook a full healthy meal for family - but not want it for myself - weird.
So all this week I focused on more balanced meals, trying for a carb/protein mix - healthy fat. Still taking in too many fat grams - but alot of those are from healthy sources.
No more PB&J's  ...that is "comfort food" for sure, even I can recognize "emotional - this makes me feel good" food. So, goodbye PB&J...hello lean protein, & veggies!!
maybe a PB celery stick every now and then to snack on? I luvs PB. (all natural, of course. )
Last Saturday, while bringing in the groceries, the bag with brand new jar of PB was dropped on the concrete floor - I gasped! OH NOOOOOOOOO, not Peanut Butter!! I slowlyopened the bag and much to dismay the broken jar of PB lay shattered in the bottom of the bag. I almost cried.. - maybe it was a blessing in disguise? 8)

Tomorrow son and I were going to run a 5K race, but plans have changed.
There is a Veteran's Parade here locally at 10:00 and we are going and taking Dad (a Vietnam Vet), if he is feeling up to it. He is doing SO good, but it may be too cold for him to be out in the weather for that long. But, we might still go, to show our support for our Vets ( dad included  )
So......instead of running the race, we are going to go out to our regular 3 mile loop and run it as fast as we can - time it and see if we can beat our last 5K race times. Sort of our own little 5K race.
We've got two more races coming in December to get ready for. :D Then it's time to start thinking about April.....hmmm, do the marathon, or the half marathon? I'm scared to try for the marathon, I have failed so many times to get through the training - but I still want to do it (glutton for punishment I guess) but I might stick to the half, I know I can do it, and I would lilke to try to set a new PR for that distance - so I don't know yet.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks Boss Man! :D

Thanks Edgar. :D He is doing well. He was not able to go this morning with the weather being in the 30's and windy, we decided he better not get out in it. So, son and I stood proudly on the sidewalk and waved our American Flag, took pictures and video of the troops that walked by shouting out their cadences, and waved our arms off at everyone in the parade. I got a little teary eyed a few times - it was so moving to see the vets from all the different wars as they passed by. After the parade was over we drove over to parents house, and I played the videos for dad and showed him all the pictures - I think he really felt proud to see how many folks came out for the parade, and he especially loved the troops marching and singing their cadence songs. It was a great morning. :D

Now it's off to the son's school performance at the football field - lots of bands from the different grade levels, high school drumline ( son can't wait to be in that!) and fireworks at the end, another Veteran's celebration. :D

Got to love our vets! That reminds me of grandfather who fought in WWII. He's passed away now, but he had such sad memories of the war (he use to cry sometimes when he talked about it). but was very patriotic! It sounds like a nice parade! Hope you had fun at the football game. :)

Hi Lynne - I've got lots to catch up on - I'll be back with posting workouts soon - this past week I wasn't feeling that well, head cold, congestion, but the week before I did weights 3x and cardio 3 times, so I'm not half bad, I'm still not well enough to walk up those stairs to the gym - hopefully I'll feel better in the morning.

I noticed you asked if anyone made their Chili with ground chicken - I use ground bison and I love it!

Great job on the 2 lb loss!

LU!!!!!!!!! Hey stranger! good to hear from you! I'm sorry you've been a bit under the weather this past week. Is it getting cold up there where you are yet? It's been in the 40's here in the mornings, course I guess the 40's to you guys is not all that cold.

bison eh? I don't know where I would get that around here. But deer season just started and hubby brought home some packages of ground deer meat (no, he doesn't hunt, but a bunch of his work buddies do and they had extra) I can use those for chili. Deer meat is very lean.

Went to nephews b-day party this evening - he's six. I had a small slice of marble (choc. and white) "Toy Story" cake, OMG it was SO sweet it hurt teeth!
Can't be doing too much of that if I want to keep this 2lbs off!

Thanks Nokie!

Today was part good, and part bad

first, the good thing. I was interviewed today by a local magazine for a story on our running group that they may publish in this months publication. The guy who started our group and is kind of the "head honcho" asked me and another girl if we could meet with him and the magazine writer to give our input, insight and thoughts for the article. Kind of an honor I guess. :)

Now, the bad thing. I had a bad episode after 3.5 mile run this evening. son and I went out and met with a couple of the runners and we ran a 3.5 mile loop. The other runner's have a faster pace than me - and I really pushed it, determined to stay up with them as long as I could. The only bad part about that was I forgot that all I had eaten the entire day (we ran at 6 p.m.) was half a protein shake, an apple, and a sandwich. I ran out of gas at 2 miles and the last 1.5 miles were really hard - son was great tho' he circled around and came back to me and paced me - such a good boy, he is. Anyway, felt fine right after but later at home I began to feel really weird, heart rate would not slow down I felt nauseous, I had a stomach attack with cramps and pain in lower region - lots of pain. It scared me. I took a warm bath, then laid down and STILL had not eaten anything - it was like I couldn't think straight. I finally ate half a banana, and am going to eat another meal, i just literally feel like I don't have the energy to lift head. I should know better than to do what I did. I know you have to fuel the body especially the day of a hard workout, before and after.

Hope tomorrow will be better. :|

Feeling much better this morning. But legs are incredibly sore, pain with every step, tightness in the hammy's.
What is humbling and infuriating at the same time is to know that fellow running friends' "easy" pace is "race" pace! That is why I'm so sore, I literally ran a race last night. But on the other hand, it really re ignites competition spirit and I WILL get faster - lose this stupid extra weight and get back to where I'm supposed to be. So.....alot of work to do - but I am looking forward to it because while last night was hard, deep down inside I was loving the feeling of pushing myself, digging deep and giving it all I had - I just need to do it more often, so it doesn't kill me.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day. :D

Thanks Allison. I don't know what happened yesterday. Sometimes I just get a bit of course and it messes whole eating plan up for the day.
I do love running (ya think? ) and you are right, I don't need to get so focused and driven that it becomes more "work" than "play", but I know inside that i'm not, and haven't been for a long while, giving it best. So yesterday was an eye opener for me. I am happiest with running when I am at the top of performance level - and I don't have to struggle so hard. It's been a while since I've been there, and now I know how much I want to get back to that feeling. :D
husband, on the other hand, was pretty upset that I got so sick after run. He kept saying.."why are you doing this to yourself? You're not 16 anymore....WE'RE OLD!!!"  He said "just run a mile, be done with it" - that's like telling a race car driver to just be the "pace car" from now on!

When I run into people in real life & hear them utter the words or excuse " I'm getting old " seriously they have given up on themselves already, sad to see really. After the age of 25 your metabolism starts to decrease hence the middle filling in, the muscle mass starts to decrease, so best to stay active.

I actually recall mother always saying " I'm getting old " as an excuse, its what makes me strive for more.

yeah, I just tell him "well SOMEONE may be getting old, but is sure ain't me!" lol!! He is constantly saying he is "old" (he is 4 years younger than me!) and i believe that you can actually convince yourself of that if that is what you want. Me, personally, I know that I am getting older, but I don't "resign" myself to it, or give in to it - I'm fighting it all the way baby!!
