Will This Stunt Growth?

Post by ChrisBonam »

Hey,

I'm 15 and have been hitting the gym and weights at home(mostly free weights) for around 7 months now and have gained a significant amount of muscle and have nearly reached the physique I originally planned to obtain, I have also noticed at school I have gained a lot more muscle then peers and with out a doubt it hasn't been unnoticed, one of mates recently started doing a few weights and has suddenly picked up the idea that I may stunt growth, I know I'm probably just being silly and overreacting, I'm 5 ft 9 inches and 15 years old but it has been on mind and started to worry me, can this actually happen?

Thanks,

Chris :)

As long as you're not going to, or close to failure, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Lifting can promote Growth Hormone production, but the additional nutrition that helps build, would be good anyway for overall health.

I knew it releases growth hormones so if anything it does the complete opposite and helps you grow :) but thanks for putting mind at ease :D

Though as I said, don't do failure training, or go close ot failure. Do it so you feel like maybe you've got another 2-3 reps in you at least.

At yor age, trying to hit rep maxes on weights, isn't a sensible idea.
