running - is it good for you?
I was watching tv and there was an article on running, it said "if you want to speed up the aging process go running, it's the quickest way to saggy boobs and face and also has a bad impact on the joints" and added "have you ever watched a runner and seen there face cheeks move up and then down" so when I went running today, I had a good look at the other runners and yes their cheeks wobbled, quite a bit actually...anyway I am in the opinion if you train smart and wear the correct footwear etc running does more good than bad.. what do you guys think?

I also just read an article on yahoo about that same thing that running might age your skin or any real strenuous cardio exercise as well. To be honest, if you followed all the advice given out there i don't think there would be much left to do! I really like the everything in moderation idea! If you try to eat healthy most of the time, put sunscreen on, where good shoes and a good bra for that matter I think And if you love running I wouldn't let some advice given by who knows who stop you!

I suppose I could always wear a tight fitting balaclava over head, mind you i'd have more laughter lines, in fact I might just wrap whole body in bandage tape...

A Hannibal Lector style mask, that hugs the face to stop wobbly cheeks, but has the necessary slits in it to permit breathing
.

This guy could be younger than 45. The perils of running related aging it seems

Running can be good for you. Most people get on a treadmill or go outside and run for 30-60 minutes. This is hard on the knees and is not an effective form of cardio.
I did a video on this called "work smarter, not harder". Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-f4pGZk00k" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: running - is it good for you?
I assume you're talking about running outside not being effective compared to Treadmill running, because otherwise, saying it can be good for you, then saying it's not effective, contradicts the point somewhat.BryanMarcel wrote:Running can be good for you. Re: running - is it good for you?
I believe the point he is trying to make is that a series of short sprints on grass (preferably uphill) or HIIT training is just as productive if not more so than a 30 to 60 minute treadmill or outdoor run.
I believe they both have their place in training and fitness. It depends on what your goals are. Longer runs of 30 to 60 minutes are better on dirt or trails if you have access to such - rather than concrete or asphalt.

Re: running - is it good for you?
I used to do cross country running when I was a school, it's definitely harder work then running on the roads, but uneven surfaces can be catastrophic!
I am hoping as I only run 7km 3-4 times a week mixed with cycling, and free weights that I will not sustain any knee injuries, but I definitely don't want to cause any problems that will stop me from exercising now or in the future.

You could perhaps make cross country more enjoyable, by putting Combine Harvester by the Wurzels on an I-pod if you've got one
.
Good old west country music to remind you of the joys of home

Tha'ts one that passed me by
Actually that Combine Harvester song was a plajurism of sorts. There was another song I think in the 60's, that went "I've got a brand new pair of roller skates and I'll give you the key".
