I'm getting ready to start classic P90X, but I'm a little confused with the nutrition part. I weight 204 lbs and I'm 5ft 9. current BMI is about 30. The nutrition guide in the system has a section on determining your nutrition level, here is mine. Resting RMR 204 X10 = 2040, Daily activity burn RMR 2040 X 20% = 408, RMR 2040 + Daily burn 408 + 600 (calculated exercise needs from P90X) = 3040 calories a day which is nutrition level 3 in the system. This is about 1/3rd more calories a day then I normally eat without working out. The program says I should eat: 9 portions of protein, 4 portions of dairy, 2 portions of fruit, 4 portions of veggies, 1 portion of fat, 1 portions of Carbs, 4 snacks (2 of which are double sized snacks), and 2 portions of condiments.
This just doesnt sound right. I know that you have to eliminate high sugar and simple carb foods from a weight loss diet, but that you need enough nutrients to be able to perform a workout program so long term carbs are needed. Can anyone that has used the system help me out with this. Maybe I'm over looking something or just not understanding where they are going with the huge increase in calories.
Going to start P90X, a little confused though.

I haven't done this, but are you sure you should be adding the "daily burn" amount and not taking it away?
If you took it away, you'd get this.
RMR 2040 - Daily burn 408 + 600 = 2,232.
You would then be consuming calories around 432 more, than a sedentary female average of 1,800.
Maybe that is more accurate perhaps.

Took a look at the program again, it says to add it.

its like a coal engine: more coal= hotter fire. if your lifestyle isnt super active you dont need to eat that many calories. i just started the program i am 220 pounds but i only consume around 2000 calories a day. im a college student so i am sitting in a chair all day. im just not that hungry.
also the diet is mostly all protein. its to help rebuild your muscles after the workouts because the first 4 weeks are going to be intense on you muscles. try 3000 calories if you are adding weight lower. everyone is different the program just generalizes the diet to make it as close to "one size fits all" as possible
