Hello everyone! Back again. Was away for a few days AGAIN. Went to stay with in laws for a few days out West and then down South with sister for a few day to take advantage of the last few days of the kids summer holidays!
So great news, there is space on the course in October so hopefully going to go ahead with that!
Have been keeping up at least 4 workouts a week too. I had a few glasses of wine on Saturday night (weak I know!) and ended up feeling AWFUL on Sunday. Went for a walk and just kept going - did 10km in 1hr 27mins - was happy with the time, didn't run just power walked! Felt great to accomplish the 10km too. Other than that been doing strength training, cycling, gym. Lungs feeling good throughout and after workouts too so I'm happy about that.

So that's me really. Not been up to much except enjoying lots of fun times with the kids and looking forward to Fitness Instructor Course!
weigh 166 lbs too!!!woot!
Onwards and upwards

Good job about the course.

Yes caving in and having the 4 glasses of Wine was weak, but lesson learned hopefully. Well judging by you recollections of the next day, I would think lesson needing to be learned A.S.A.P :p :p.

Keep up the hard work, you're doing great. Little by little it's coming together.

Seeing you talking about inlaws reminds me of that joke.

What's the difference between inlaws and outlaws?

Outlaws are wanted

oh don't worry lesson SO learned Bossman!!

we're in the final run up to back to school so we're making the most of every day we have so we're out and about and busy a lot - hence no time for here!
have done some 5k walks and did 30k on the bike today. Going out tomorrow for a big ride with a group so looking forward to that!
no news really just wanted to touch base and log in exercise etc.

ooh except that there IS a place on the fitness instructor course! Going to hopefully attend (depending whether hubby is home from work) an info evening on Monday.

onwards and upwards!

OMG it's been 3 weeks since I've been on here? where is the time going?

So. big news. I RAN (ok slow jogged but I didn't walk) a half marathon this weekend!!!!! Am now totally hooked and feel like I love running again. The sense of achievement to cross that finish line was amazing - I was so proud and delighted with myself! When I signed up for it (kept it quiet I know!!), I figured I'd walk it from start to finish and planned on 9 minute km's (sub 14min miles).

I'd been plugging away at running intervals for weeks and I figured I'd give it a lash walking a half marathon. Started out at a slow jog, 7.5 mins per km for the first km with the crowd which felt really manageable and really comfortable. I slowed it down then -more out of nerves, that I would run out of steam- to a fast walk at about 8mins per km. which was plan to maintain as close to that as possible to come in sub 3 hours. After about 4 kms the walk felt really good, I was well warmed up and before I knew it I was lightly jogging and it felt easy and good! So I kept going...and going and going and getting sub 7min km's for 5kms straight - STILL no walking breaks!! When I reached 13kms I slowed for hills (and to preserve energy for the last bit) and stuck to sub 8min kms. I felt great and by km 18 knew I was going to finish comfortably under the 2:45 and was considering trying to up the tempo to see could I do a sub 2:40. Just at this point, I caught up with hubby who was also doing the race who was walking - actually he was limping. Of course loyalty took over and I walked with him, stopping to flex his foot to stretch his calves for him as and when he needed. Slowed us right down but we slowly jogged the last mile together (after about a mile of stopping while I hopped around so I wouldn't cool down waiting for him to stretch )crossing the finish line hand in hand (how rosemantic  )... official time was 2:55. More than being proud of just finishing the half marathon - I was THRILLED that I was able to run it (ok jog it - but hey folks when your running has been so up and down like mine, you'da been happy too!). I cannot believe how it just clicked on the day. I didn't push speed, maybe I could have jogged faster but I wanted to finish comfortably and not wreck the buzz I was in.
I loved it.
I enjoyed it.
I am totally HOOKED!
Betcha y'all never thought I'd run a half marathon after all bemoaning running this year lol! I wanted to turn all that negative energy into something positive and boy I really think I did!

Oh Noosk!!!! I'm so excited for you! That is awesome. What a wonderful experience to achieve a goal and exceed your own expectations you had set for yourself. :D
Major kudos to you for foregoing your own personal race time to help your hubby and stay with him - the holding hands part nearly had me in tears! Beautiful expression of true love and commitment.
Be proud of yourself, you've earned it. Now....onwards and upwards to the next goal!!! Can't wait to "watch" you reach and exceed that one too!

Looking at splits there on the Garmin (Edgar - isn't the max stuff annoying? mine does the same). I did a 10K from the start of 4km to the end of 13km in 1 hr 6 mins!!!!!!!!I never would have believed I could do that! I'm already looking for next race (want to do a 10K in November)...like I said - hooked!!

Anything max on those watches are useless. The heart monitor is terrible too. If I could go back I would just get the basic watch.

Hello again everyone.
So this week has consisted of:
Monday - one hour interval walk and bodyweight strength session (upper body only to allow legs an extra day to heal after the race
Tuesday - 30Km on the bike - was glorious!!!
Wednesday - 7km run in 49 minutes!! Ran the whole way - no walking and it felt great. Really good and I was so proud of myself after. It's the first training run I've done without walk breaks - I think it was more psychological than physiological before the race when I kept stopping and basically had a rubbish attitude about what I could achieve.
Planning day tomorrow now.
I LOVE being able to say I'm a runner and that I 'went for a run today'. It totally rocks - oh and if I could write an ode to runners and bike - I would.. maybe I will!
Onwards and upwards folks!

You've certainly earned the right to be proud & yes sometimes we mentally set ourselves up to think we CAN'T, only to find out if a person gives themselves the freedom to try & be okay even if you fail, really there is nothing lost & everything to gain, congrats.
