Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Here ye all you Peanut Butter lovers! Look at this! Powdered Peanut Butter - just add water - I bought it, it's delicious! Below I took from their web site bellplantation.com. It's a little expensive but worth it! Since you need to add 1 tbsp of water to 2 tbsp of PB2, it's not as easy to eat (so you won't go to the till often!) and is truly a treat!
Nutritional Benefits of PB2
A lot of the positive feedback we receive comes from our customers who had sworn off peanut butter because of the fat and calories in the traditional product – whether it is all-natural or the regular grocery store offerings. It is so rewarding to have customers let us know how happy they are to FINALLY be able to enjoy peanut butter again without feeling any guilt. It seems some people have denied themselves this most popular comfort food for years – what a shame!!
If you have any doubts about the benefits of PB2 vs. traditional peanut butter, read on. Keep in mind, that PB2 is all natural peanut butter without the fat or the added hydrogenated oil.
Traditional
2 Tbsp – 190 calories
Calories from fat - 130
Saturated fat – 3 grams
PB2
2 Tbsp – 45 calories
Calories from fat – 13
Saturated fat – 0 grams

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Natural peanut butter should equal out to this " powdered peanut " peanut product, unless they have altered the peanuts, as allison said, making it processed.

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
In reading on their website the only processing they say is done is squeezing out the oil from the peanuts.
The ingredients include peanuts, sugar, salt. A serving has only 1 gram of sugar, 1.5 g. of fat and 94 mg. sodium.
The ingredients on natural peanut butter include peanuts, and 1% or less of salt. A serving also has 1 gram of sugar, 16 g. of fat and 90 mg. sodium.
Not alot of difference I can see except for the fat content - WOW, that alone makes it something to consider trying. I love peanut butter - but the fat content forces me to limit servings, so I understand where Lu is coming from here. If there is a healthy alternative to full fat peanut butter, with minimal processing that tastes good - I think that is a win-win.
Now, fess up Lu....you know you are gonna try the chocolate PB2!
it looks delish.
I better stay far, far away from that stuff - as I would be dipping in the jar WAY too much!

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Exactly they take out the natural healthy oil & replace it with what kind of fat ? ..who knows what happens when they remove the oil, just moderate your natural peanut butter intake. That exactly what they want you t think, its lower in fat, etc.
Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Guess it's just you and me Lynne - I really can't see anything but positive here...85 % less fat sounds pretty darn good.....and yes! I will try the chocolate - ha!
I do have the Natural almond Butter and here's the stats to compare, yes the ingredients =almonds, but so does the powdered stuff - the ingredients = peanuts.
Natural Almond Butter vs PB2
180 Calories vs 45
140 Calories from Fat vs 13 or 16 grams of fat vs 1.5 g
2 g sugar vs 1g
7 g Carbs vs 5g
4 g fiber vs 2g
both 5 g protein
0mg sodium vs 94 mg <--not sure why?!
Now I'm NOT saying eat ALL you can, it's ok? , but for those who truly like peanut butter, this is a great alternative. I personally do not like almond butter as much. And as I said, having to mix PB2 makes it more difficult to eat, so you can't easily stick your spoon in the jar and go on a binge. I actually like it better than traditional peanut butter!
So, to each their own tastes

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Notice anything interesting here?
5g Carbs, 1 Sugar, 2 Fibre, what's the other 2g?
Possibly hidden Carbs, if the caloric amount from just Carbs, is stated as 24 and 12 respectively, (from combined Fibre and Sugar), as then you're not disclosing calories that must exist, based on the non-disclosed remainder of the total Carb grams stated.
Makes you wonder what those Carbs are and the fact that the PB2 has more of them
.
7g Carbs, 2 Sugar, 4 Fibre, what's the other 1g?ldematto wrote: Natural Almond Butter vs PB2

Not sure I understand your Math - but I've come to realize that it's just not in best interest to bring anything new to the table. I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about!?Boss Man wrote:7g Carbs, 2 Sugar, 4 Fibre, what's the other 1g?

I'll try and elucidate furtherldematto wrote:Not sure I understand your Math - but I've come to realize that it's just not in best interest to bring anything new to the table. I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about!?Boss Man wrote:7g Carbs, 2 Sugar, 4 Fibre, what's the other 1g?

One product claims 7g Carbs. 2 Sugar, 4 Fibre. That leaves 1g unnaccounted for.
The other claims 5g. 1 Sugar, 2 Fibre. That leaves 2g unnaccounted for.
The total calories for both Sugar and Fibre, from "disclosed Carbs", are 24 in the first product and 12 in the second.
This leaves a discrepancy of 4 calories in product 1 and 8 in product 2. These could be classed as "hidden Carbs", as they must be there, because of the fact that both sets of Fibre and Sugar totals, don't add up to 100% of the overall Carb totals, so the "undisclosed Carbs", must therefore logically have a caloric value.
The only other possibilities, is that the "undisclosed carbs", may be a complex type like Cellulose or Hemi-cellulose as opposed to Fibre and they are not mentioned, incase it confuses people, but because those 1g and 2g amounts are not described, it begs the question if there's a more dubious reason for lack of their disclosure.
Hopefully that makes a bit more sense

Another possible example of "hidden Carbs", would be if a product has say 22.25g Carbs for example, but the Carb total is stated as 85 calories, when it should be 89, as then you're getting 4 calories of hidden Carbs.

Got it Bossman - thanks
Walked 3 miles yesterday, then ran/walked on the beach - fabulous day!! Today laid low...lousy weather, stormy and lots going on. Tomorrow will do weights and cardio on the treadmill.
Hope you all have a great day!

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Yesterday began workout with stretching and 50 Windmills, then did 1 set of 20 reps of Incline Flyes, Post Delts, 10 x 2 SAR's, Chin Ups (10), Leg Extensions(15), lunges (10)and Low Hurdle Steps overs, F/S/B (30) - then was interrupted and I never got back to it:(
Today, decided to start over - was a little concerned that I did some weights yesterday without recovery but it wasn't much so - I went ahead.
Warmed up with 50 Windmills and stretching, as well as SMR
Incline Flyes 2 x 20, 5 lb DB's
Front Rows (laying over bench at incline flye level) 2 x 20, 5 lb DB's)
Post Delts 2 x 20, 5 lb DB's
Single Arm Rows, 2 x 10 x 2, 25 lb DB
Chin Ups 2 x 10 (with assist)
Reverse Lunges 2 x 10
Leg Extensions - 2 x 15, 40 lbs.
Low Hurdle Side Step overs 2 x 20
Standing Calf Raises - 2 x 20 seconds x 2
Finished with 15 minutes on the Elliptical - phew!!! I'm not a fan of the elliptical, probably because it's hard for me, but I've decided to start with 15 minutes and work way up to 30, then I'm not sure, maybe just increase the tension etc. I felt it was necessary to do something because knees have been bothering me and I needed to use something with less impact to them than the treadmill.Just 15 minutes and I'm sweating bullets!!! It's probably what I needed all along! Hope I can keep it up!
I'm drinking strawberry Protein Shake - yum! Still working closely with livestrong.com to keep track of calories <---Bossman, hope you don't see this as an advertisement and bounce me! LOL
I did lose 2 lbs this week, but I'm still not back to the starting point I want to be at - I'll get there!
Have a great day!

Awesome Lu!! You are doing great! Keep going on that elliptical...it is a good workout and easier on the legs than the "dreadmill".ldematto wrote:I did lose 2 lbs this week

I've tried to be a fan of the Elliptical. I'd enjoy it more if I could have a go at it with a sledge hammer.ldematto wrote: Finished with 15 minutes on the Elliptical - phew!!! I'm not a fan of the elliptical, probably because it's hard for me,
