So, wait(Refeed/Leptin Question)..

Post by JTRz13 »

I'm sure this has been asked before:

I'm planning on incorporating an every-other-day refeed. At this point, I'm having trouble with other diet protocols.
I just need some details clarified. If, for example, on day one I finished the day with a caloric deficit of 500 calories...and then on day 2, I consumed 500 above maintenance...wouldn't net deficit be almost nothing?

And, if I'm doing it every other day, could I afford to make the deficit larger? How big before leptin really drops?

And does the refeed, due to the metabolic boost it provides-and-what-not, "decrease the value of the calories" by any notable amount(as in, for example, 500 over maintenance acts more like 300 or something because of the leptin boost...? ) ??
Thanks.

Why the necessary Leptin angle? I'm just saying, as yes Leptin is less produced when people are obese, but it has been known to have some bearing on Fat Metabolism, ever since it was discovered in 1984, understanding of it increasing with time, but I wouldn't be overly concerend about Leptins effects really, it's about mainly the caloric intake that would be the primary focus. as it's something you can definintely control.

Trying to create a definitive relationship between your eating and your Endocrine activity, is not as easy as trying to have a regulated eating intake, with roughly the same calories and ratios per meal, per day, because whilst you can see what you're eating and what is on labels and packaging, you can't see how and when your body produces Hormones such a Leptin.

If you take this approach, you could end up being overly concerned about things like Adiponectin and Ghrelin as well.

500 less one day, 500 more the next. Net would be 0, but the deviation is then 1,000 more in nearly 48 hours, which would create a metabolic shocking of some kind, if you mainly consume around maintenance 5 days a week, but possibly a yo-yo effect, where the metabolsim may not settle into a groove as adequately as you'd like.

Well, apparently a big carb load, exercise itself, and uh fish oil increase leptin transport. So it is somewhat controllable. Progress has more or less halted and I'm basically starving all the time(using a 500 cal def for every 4 days, with every 5th being a cheatish day). After looking around a little bit, I'm pretty much convinced that low leptin and an improper refeed setup are the culprit.

What's this about "metabolic shocking" with the caloric deviation?
Thanks for the reply :D

By Caloric shocking and caloric deviation, I mean if you eat maintenance calories several days on a run, the body will be shocked if you eat 500 less, then 500 above maintenance the next day.

The body has gotten kind of used to your habits, then they change significantly for two days.

The deviation is because 500 below maintenance and 500 above, are 1000 calories difference that's all. That's what I meant by that.
