The 2 big keys to weight loss

Post by mja155 »

'Eat less and you will lose weight', this is the basic concept of weight loss. You need to consume less energy than your body uses, although this may be true there is a lot more to it. For example there are 3 different forms of energy and each has a different impact on your weight. Then there is the quality of energy, which also makes a big difference. When you take all of these into consideration you will find that it isn't so much the AMOUNT that is consumed, rather WHAT is consumed.

The 3 forms of energy are carbohydrates, fat and protein. In todays fat-phobic society we are taught to steer clear from fat. The truth is that fat is important for health, there are many health issues associated with reduced fat consumption. The worst thing is that fat actually has very little impact on your weight at all. The 2 big energy sources that impact weight are actually carbohydrates and protein.

The 2 big keys to weight loss

1. Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are the bodies main source of fuel. When we consume carbohydrates we turn them into a form of sugar called glucose and this is absorbed into the blood and used as energy. It is this level of glucose in the blood (blood sugar level) that is the key. When there is too much glucose then the body releases a hormone called insulin which stores this excess as fat. Excess glucose in the blood stream is a direct result of poor energy quality. In processed foods in particular, the carbohydrate energy has a very simple chemical structure, which is broken down easily in the body. This means that the energy is released quickly, which is undesirable as a lot of it is stored as fat.

2. Protein

Protein is very important for weight loss. The reason for this is that protein stimulates the release of a hormone called glucagon, which does the opposite of insulin. Where insulin turns excess energy into fat, glucagon turns fat into usable energy and releases it back into the blood stream to be used. Protein also creates the building blocks for muscle growth and this is very important as muscles are metabolically active and burn calories just to maintain themselves.

No offense intended, but you have been posting this exact post in many other places. What is the reasoning or motivation for posting it here, as you're not answering or asking a question.

Again, no offense intended, just curious.

That's fine, just being careful :).

We get people posting stuff sometimes, that looks knowledgeable, then it comes with sneaky weblinks in it for fitness stuff, or the person just does a cut / paste job off other sites, or places like wikipedia, trying to look knowledgeable and it then acts as a detriment to the community as a whole, because this communiy exixts to serve the many, not the individual.

So I appreciate your clarification.
