Update: Tips for Cardio with Bad Knees

Post by nsbmsk »

So I've been dong the bike thing for a while now and have recently moved on to a walk/jog program. I was certain that knees would be a problem but so far so good. :)

only problem is that tibia hurts in both legs. It's not shin splints. I've done research and that's not the problem, it's the actual bone that hurts.:( Any ideas of how to treat this?

I do this 4-5 days a week. I am running for approx. 15 min. out of 30. goal is by September to be able to jog the whole distance (approx. 5K)and stop walking in between.

You have to do an x-ray for the bone and check ur physician... then whenever feel the pain stop or reduce the intensity, u have to feel comfy while u r workoing out... pain is an indication for trouble.... dont ignore it... i ignored the pain in knees and thought that it was normal but turns to be not normal.. i had to stay about 3 years off bodybuilding cuz i hurt many joints!!!

Try to take glucosamine, it builds joint cartlidges, it will help if the problem is in the cartildges, u havet o see a doctor as soon as possible, to save ur knees and tibia from further damage esp that you workout 4-5days a week, which means not enough time to rest...

Glucosamine is good for the joints, but if he has a Shellfish allergy, (Chitin), then he shouldn't take it, as Glucosamine contains Chitin.

If he thinks he might be allergic to Chitin, he should consult a medical proffessional first, as there may well be a test that can be done to check for a Chitin allergy.

Actually, I already know what is wrong with knees.... I was in a car accident about 4 years ago, had all the tests x-rays, and MRI, there's nothing wrong structurally but I badly bruised the bone and was told this takes 3-10 years to heal.

problem is not knees....it's shin bone about halfway between knee and ankle. I've done some more research on this and have cut back a bit on the intensity so as not to cause a stress fracture. Which is what will probably happen if I try to push myself too hard.

I also take a supplement called Nutri-Flex and it has glucosamine in it. It works great for the joints.

Thanks for the advice.

BTW Boss man it's 'she' not he. :D

Sorry about he confusion, I think I mustn't have seen any evidence to suggest you were female and just made a snap judgement.

Hower I value all the female members as well. I certainly don't have issues with anybody who joins this site, except for people who post spam, or badly disrespect others.

Hopefully your problems sort themselves out soon :).

Good luck :).

mix up your cardio a little

day 1 - treadmill
day 2 - rower
day 3 - bike
day 4 - treadmill
day 5 - elliptical
etc

everyday on the treadmill will cause stress fractures from over use and take days off when needed

Thanks for the advice swanso but this is road work, no gym necessary. I don't have access to an elliptical, rower or treadmill. Just bike or the road.

I live in the country so I prefer outdoor workouts.

I've tried a gym membership but found that just doesn't work for me. Too much hassle trying to find the time to go, it's just easier to put on a pair of runners and hit the road.

When I do running I only run on gravel or grass, no pavement. I've cut down to going only 3 times a week instead of 4-5. It's helped to have the extra rest in between.
