I don't know how long ago you quit, but it took a good year for me to stop feeling the effects of 35 plus years of smoking after I quit in 2007. It took me 2 weeks into a bout of pneumonia to quit the cancer sticks.

wow thanks for the replies guys.

Doing ok this week thank goodness. Am taking becotide four times a day and ventolin 4 times a day. Things have eased considerably now. Tomorrow will be interesting as I'm going to try some cycling outdoors again and see how I go. I'm going to do a 5km loop around house so I'm never far away from it. Today and Tuesday I did strength workout and swimming.

leg press – 85kgs 3 x 12

leg extension 37.5 kgs 3 x 12

hip abductor 100kgs 3 x 12 !!!!!!

hip adductor 75kgs 3 x 12

chest press 25 kgs 3 x 12!!!

row/deltoid press 35 kgs 2 x 12

lat pull down 37.5 kgs 3 x 15

fly 32.5kgs 3 x 12

plus a bunch of core exercises and a few km's swimming.
I reviewed measurements as well and I'm down another 3 inches overall (mainly thighs, neck, arms)...delighted!

onwards and upwards!

so was away for a few day and then internet connection went haywire when I came back grrr. Think we're back to normal now though. I got in 4 workouts last week, 3 strength sessions and 1 really long swim - 3kms! longest to date! I was WRECKED after it but it felt great. I was in a 50m pool which was a treat and the metres just seemed to fly by and stack up and before I knew it I'd done the 3km!
I'm still doing as much training as I can (a bit harder during the summer with the kids off school but I'm managing) despite the fact that there will be NO TRIATHLON for me this year. I don't have enough money for a wetsuit and I still can't run any more than 1km - at least not that I've tested anyway.
I did try a quick 15km spin on the indoor bike after weight session on Friday night to see how the auld lungs were doing and throughout it I had no problems. I did 15kms in 30 mins on level 12 intensity, random programme. Kept cadence between 85 - 90 rpms and was pretty pleased with the performance. I did a 5 min cool down and it was at the end of this I started to feel a bronchial constriction. Not bad (certainly not as bad as last time I did cardio outside of a pool environment), but it was enough to make me take two puffs on the inhaler. After about 10 minutes it felt better and I took time in the steam room to ease it as well.

Going to keep it up though - have gotten out for a few cycles with the kids and with husband and kids on Sunday evening (I love being on the bikes together!).It's Monday night now so I'm going to get the kids to bed in about 30 minutes and then do some cardio work here at home (hubby working late as usual). I'll do Gillian Michael's 30 day shred and then maybe 30 minutes of something steady state (or longer if I can manage it - have step machine outside I might do). I ate badly today (because there was crap there - I stupidly gave in to hubby's request to buy crisps (chips) and I shouldn't cause I've been munching on them all day and I had 4 biscuits with tea as well which I know I shouldn't have. Ah well, tomorrow is another day.

I do know that I absolutely MUST start logging again as weight is still bobbling around the 168 to 170 but not going down and it's purely down to not logging and being accountable and monitoring calorie intake. From TOMORROW I HEREBY COMMIT TO LOGGING FOOD ON FITTRACKER AND FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES TO REACH TARGET BODYWEIGHT/FAT PERCENT .....there. I've said it. In capitals no less.

lol - just as I'm typing this, 4yo asked me could she do her exercises and has ran off with resistance band to do her exercises....sweetie.

Sounds like a good workout. The swimming sounds great and it is one more things I need to put on own list

Keep doing your best. You currently have one or two physical limitations, but they sound only temporary, so keep pushing and don't let anything hold you back more than is already the case.

You CAN do this.

Good luck.

I think they lace chips with some kind of drug, it is humanly impossible to eat ONE only, pure evil.By biscuit you mean those little cookies ?..when I have transfusion each month the hospital has those by the bucketful, I've fallen victim to a package of those things last two visits..though don't tell anyone okay ? ;)

Thanks guys! Edgar - watch out - swimming is addictive too!
Bossman thanks as always for your supportive and kind words. You're a rock!
Bonnie - I know. chips are soooo dangerous. Although I should have had more self control. Biscuits is the generic term for cookies here in Ireland. The ones I had were little short bread thins with raisins in them...delish dunked in a cup of tea lol!

I'm behaving so far today though. Going to get some lunch going in a minute. Planning a strength workout this evening followed by a cycle. It's actually a beautiful day here in Dublin - warm and sunny (for once we've had a terrible summer), and I am ITCHING to get out on bike for a spin. Unfortunately I can't as the kids are playing next door with the neighbours and don't want to take them away from their friends.

Will restrain myself and continue with the marathon clean out of the kids rooms I'm doing (whole of upstairs is in turmoil and this is day two - nearly finished thank god!). The fact that the rest of the place is falling down while I do their two rooms is another story - and another day's work I think!
Onwards and Upwards folks!

A bit slow on the work outs this week - mainly due to days out with the kids and having visitors over. Have had lots of bike rides and long walks but that's about it.One strength session, hubby working today (Saturday grr) so can't get to the gym again but will do some gillian michaels and strength stuff later this afternoon at home.

That aside I have some big news. I've been given the opportunity to do a Personal Trainer and Gym Instructor course I've been considering for the last few months. I would never have had the money but it means I could do personal training or run own classes or boot camp etc. myself once finished. I'm really excited. It's a year long Diploma course and seems to be as thorough as I'll get here as a starting point. At the end of it I'll be studio and gym instructor, spin instructor, boxercise instructor and personal trainer.

I am REALLY excited that the opportunity has come up through sister's dance school (she will sponsor me the cost). I'd been mulling it over for months now wondering how I could get the money together, juggle everything etc. but between myself and husband we've worked it all out. I really want to spread the fitness love around. I love feeling well, looking well and being well. I love every minute of exercise and I want to try to pass that along to people and help them to change their lives. When I think of me this time last year I was around 200lbs, smoking 10 - 15 a day, cursing that none of clothes fit me, didn't like to go out and do things with kids, hated being around people and had terrible anxiety attacks. I cannot believe that since January when I started to change things for me, that the me today is almost unrecognisable. Last year I could barely walk around the zoo with the kids, yesterday we walked and walked and walked (five hours) and didn't even think about the couch till it was time to watch the European Swim Champ higlights last night. Last year I would have had to sleep for about an hour or more after I got home...I would have gone to the gym too only hubby was working late grrrr...it seems so insignificant but really it's huge difference from where I was a year ago. I was so UN able last year - this year I feel like I could take on anything and with hard work and commitment and dedication I could achieve it.

All I have to do now is find out are there any places available on this year's course (PLEASE LET THERE BE!) on Monday and then hopefully go from there!

Also wanted to update that the asthma has SERIOUSLY gotten better. Did a great cycle earlier this week again (worked hard) and had no ill effects whatsoever! Was delighted with myself!
Onwards and upwards
