hello, im new to this site and really wanted to ask a question in regards to plateuas . I have done great this year, I have as of last week lost 75 lbs since Feb 1, 2010. I also, after seeing dr last Wed, dropped blood pressure from 140s to 110s, and now am being weaned off of high blood press meds . Hurray. Also, total cholestrol dropped from 187 to 113, and total sugar is 91. I went from 341 to 267, but am now at 260, and goal weight is 210, Im 55, 6" 0 and exercise 2hours a day, 7 days a week now. I just started to use weights, ie, bi cept , tri cept machines, etc, but I lost the 75 lbs using ONLY the tread mill.,,,,,,,,,also, I have exercise asthma, so I had to be very cautious, but I think smptoms of ashtma are not as severe since losing so much weight, , and I want to get off bronchiodialatos at the end of the year, and will be be med free.....hurray. dr was shocked and wants me at 210, but he is so proud of weight accomplishment.....so, problem is
Im stuck in a plateau for about 3-4 weeks.......I just started using the machines to push resistance on upper body. How does one work thru a plateau. I only eat about 1100 calories, Im on total vegitarian......., all fruits and vegs, no processed foods, no salts, so sweets, no breads....I had to go vegatarian to lose the weight, as it was causing health issues...and I succeeded, as I am no more than 60 % closer to goal weight
I am doing well, just want to get into the 240s and feel good. I will say too, I lost 11 inches in waist, and am looking good. I just want to get past this plateua..........sorry to ramble on, just am concerned about health and the sooner I get this fat off, the healthier dr told me I am going to continue to feel.......its not so much about bulking up or looking sexxy, its more health related, esp with exercise asthma.....
thanks for listening........any tips are TRULY APPRECIATED...........Lloyd

Hello Brentboy and thanks for the reply and comments about blood pressure. Its low, actually, the day before I went to the dr, it was 91 / 65 and he thought that its at a point that I should wean off.. This is why I am hoping to lose a fair amount by December of this year, as we are setting a date to take me off of blood pressure medicine as of 12/23/2010.
This is why its so important to me, to lose the fat, for health reasons. Also, I stated I have exercise asthma. I used to have asthma when I was a kid, but it came back on me last year, and the dr told me if I lost the weight, the symptoms of asthma would decrease. He is right, as I can use the tread mill for one and a half hours, at 3.5 which really helped in the weight loss. When I first got on it in Feb of this year, I could only last 10 mins because of exercise induced asthma, but now Im up to 2 hours at the gym. I m only using the exercise machines , i.e, the bi cept, tri cept machines, to help tone body, I have "bat wings" or flab under arms because I lost weight up there too
Also, with ashtma, I now can truly say, it gets worse with stress. They are now finding out stress contributes to asthma. I found out the hard way last year, after a huge argument with a family member, I drove back from our farm and was 20 miles from a hospital, and was very anxious that I was so far away. Finally, breathing returned to normal about 1 mile from the hosp, so I didnt need to go. This is why I mentioned, that I wanted to lose weight, but I was really stressed about being so fat, that they thought it was contributing to asthma........... family has its usual drama and I have to avoid drama and stress from them, so this is another contributing factor...
, like I said, I have exercise asthma, so its a double sword. I need to exercise to lose weight so sypmptoms of asthma would dissapate, yet, when I got on the tread mill, I would give out after 5 mins, and get stessed and winded, that I would have to stop. It was like a Catch 22 situation
Dr then told me to use a relief inhaler, one that allowed me to work out, just to take a hit or two off of Abuterol, the instant relief inhaler, before I started to exercise, which was a God send........it allowed me to run on the treadmill.
I just hit this plateau, but like you said, body needs to readjust........ Im also on this vegetarian diet for health reasons as well, as they now are finding certain foods that trigger ashtma attacks, ie, milks, yougarts, wines, peanuts, but not peanutbutter, certain dairy products, sulfur rich foods, etc...........
Im hoping to continue to lose weight for health, but this was concern. The ability to lose more by Dec when I meet with dr to go off of blood pressure meds.......he was hoping for 30 more lbs as well as myself
hopefully this post will help others who are asthmatic and find it hard to exercise with ashtma.........
thanks again for your reply, its great to get encouragement from fellow posters..........
