I'm new to the forums, and new to learning how to "count calories". I need newbie help with the calorie deficit. This is the first time I've ever heard about a calorie deficit. I understand what it is, but question is this:
When trying to lose weight. Should I be watching that calorie deficit is at -500, or that the "Total Calories Burned" (in the "Today's Exercise" Section of the fit tracker) equals 500?

Re: Calorie Deficit
Hey,
If I were you, I would just worry about the calorie deficit, but remember to always create it with diet AND exercise. Not just diet.

Re: Calorie Deficit
I exercise and diet. calorie intake has been between 1400 - 2000 calories a day (I've been watching what and how much I eat since I started doing this. In the first few days I was going way over calorie goal of 2,124/day). I burn about 500-700 calories exercising a day (6 days a week) depending what I do for exercise. I give myself 1 day to rest (which would be today, Sunday). calorie deficit for yesterday was -1824.
Believe it or not I have made big changes in what I eat, and when. I've cut junk food (cookies, ice cream etc.)out of diet. I realized about 2 weeks ago I was eating too much of that. I don't neglect myself from that stuff, I usually allow myself 1 day/week to have a treat, either a small serving of low fat ice cream, or a cookie or two, but no more than that. But I don't eat them as much as I was. I feel like trying to get a -500 calorie deficit would not be impossible, but impossible for me. I feel like I would have to exercise all day long to make that -500 deficit happen, and with a 10 month old...that's where the impossibility comes in. I exercise for 30 minutes twice a day while she is sleeping, which is usually JUST enough time to get each exercise in. (I used to workout like this years ago with Denise Austin videos and it worked for me) 1 workout is a 30 minute high impact cardio exercise...just cardio. After I exercise I have about 3 or 4 hours of rest while I play and watch daughter. When she takes her second nap I do a second 30 minute high impact exercise that uses light weights (3Ib dumbells). Once in a while I can get a 1 hour walk in (if it's nice, not too cold, or raining).
Do I need to eat more to get closer to a -500 deficit if I'm working out 1 hour a day (30 minutes with light weights), and burning almost 700 calories each day with those exercises?

Re: Calorie Deficit
Don't over think calories. Around 2,000 a day is good. If you stick to a quality level of training I.e. Interval Cardio, good weights workouts, (not stupid 15 reps, 1 plate on a Pec Deck stuff), then you'll be fine.
Re: Calorie Deficit
Thank you for responding Bossman! I was overthinking the calories. So much that I was driving bf nuts these past few days, and myself.
