Here's the deal. I've come back to house where I live with grandmother and mother. grandmother, who has FTD and alzheimers, is taken care of by mother and hired caretakers. You would think they would know a bit about giving their patients healthy food, but I've come back to an absolute mess. grandmother, who is 81, has gained about 40 pounds since I was here last summer. It's uncomfortable for her and frankly pretty bad for her ability to walk. Besides that, she's healthy as a horse which she always has been. But I'd rather see a bit of a change in her comfort.
We recently got a new caretaker for the days. To start off on a good foot, I basically threw out our fridge which was a heart attack in itself. But while I like pretty simple foods with spices, grandmother does not. She also eats tuna, which I have no clue about since I don't eat fish. So, this is where I need help. I need simple easy to make meals that can easily be put into a good day's worth of food for grandmother and ultimately mother who never has time to make food anymore.
grandmother is inactive and doesn't need anything too dense, but she also needs to be comfortable. For her, it's health not vanity. She loves sweet things especially ice cream. She can't have Splenda. Any good simple desserts that are a bit healthier? I won't keep ice cream in the house, because she doesn't remember if she had it and ends up having five servings of ice cream in a day because the caretakers are a bit overindulgent.
I'm keeping mostly fresh fruits, sliced lean meats, whole grain breads, and low-fat milks. Any meals that aren't too flavorful that a grandmother would like would be appreciated! Or any other advice as well!
Thanks!
