knock, knock Noosk! hope all is well with you.

Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
opens door well hello FIF! Sorry i haven't been around much. Life very busy at the moment with the gardening course and more dance school exams and end of year show and new website to do and and and....oh yes, training lol!
Feel like I've been bold not posting in here but have had very little time. Have been doing well though - doing about 6 - 8 hours training a week. Still loving it!
Down to 168lbs this week yahoo!!
energy levels feel good. have started to throw in a couple of days a week where I do two training sessions now and I'm really enjoying it.
Swim technique continues to improve and I've knocked another 9 seconds off 100m times on endurance pace swims so am thrilled with that! (I found catch for any of your swimmers out there that know what I'm wittering on about). Unbelievable that you can knock 9 seconds off just by catching the water properly. It really is about technique.
Running going okay. Not great but I'm stomping away trying to get out 3 times a week (even if it's just a 30 minute run).
Got hands on Gillian whatshername 30 Day Shred so have added that in a couple times a week too (it's only 20 mins) with strength training. Sounds like all I'm doing is exxercise but it's not - I swear! I am just loving it so much!
Cycling going well. Got a road bike (Giant Avail 2) - nice light entry level road bike which to me feels like it flies! average speed went up by 5km compared to other hybrid (which is still main mode of transport during the week for school/shopping etc.). Enjoying that but haven't had the new bike out on a proper long spin yet so this weekend hopefully. I'm marshalling at a triathlon on Saturday (gives me a free entry into a triathlon later in the year yippee!) so looking forward to seeing more of the action. All I have left to get now is a wetsuit - soo will do that next paycheque.
eating going well too. stilll ensuring to eat plenty of protein. I haven't been journalling and I want to start doing that again obviously I haven't been doing anything wrong as I've lost 3 lbs since I last logged in here, but I like to know exactly what I'm eating etc. that is on the list of things to do today!
right. I'm off. will say hello later as this evening after I get home from dance classes I don't have any work to do so can relax and say hello to everyone again!
onwards and upwards
Noosk!

Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
Hey girl!! Wow! you are doing fantastic! Congrats on the 3lbs. lost. Woo Hoo!!! Your training is coming along well. Adding two a day workouts is great, especially when training for a tri. I'm glad you got a road bike. I know what you mean about feeling like you are flying. When I went from a hybrid/off road bike to a racing road bike I couldn't believe how much faster I could go!
Keep it up girl...I know you are going to do great!!

Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
Don't apologise for anything. I'm certainly not accepting an apology, because i'd feel rude. You have a life, keep living it and keep dong what you're doing. It's working and that's what matters most here.
Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
Hello to you too, sounds as though life is full & that is fantastic, congrats on the progress

Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
hello again ladies and gentlemen!
I have been up the walls busy and very sick (bronchitis knocked me off feet for weeks and I'm only recovering now). I had nothing to report and got so busy that had no time either so haven't been here in weeks. Was busy taking steroids and antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and inhalors (still using inhalor 4 times a day - although now that I think about it, today I've only had to use it this morning when I woke up and it's 5:30pm now).
I'm FINALLY on the mend properly (I think) had a terrible time with bronchitis followed by really bad asthma like symptoms. own fault after years of smoking. BUT I'm on the mend I think properly this time. As you can guess, training and exercising took a back seat for a few weeks so I have been very inactive and need to get strength stamina and cardio capacity back. I kept up swimming while I was sick about twice a week and a very very easy short leisure cycle about once a week when I felt up to it. That said, it was by NO means a work out and strength training didn't happen at all!
Back on the path again however and am taking baby steps.
I went to the Wednesday night and did a weight session on the machines. I have no idea why I decided to do machine work instead of weights I just did. Maybe I was being lazy although it was a good workout and BOY did I hurt yesterday!
Leg press 50kgs 3 x 15
Leg curl 35kgs 3 x 15
Hip abductor 75kgs 3 x 15
Adductor > (inner thigh thing) 65kgs 3 x 15
Fly 20kgs 3 x 15
Lat pull 35kgs 3 x 15
shoulder press 25kgs 3 x 15
bicycle crunches x 50
reverse crunches x 30
plank x 45secs x 2
I then went swimming for about 20 mins after but was shaking so much couldn't go on!! Muscles weren't used to lifting weights and they let me know!
weight is 171lbs so I gained 3 lbs back over the last 6 weeks. Not surprised - was eating whenever I felt like it and basically dropped all good eating habits.
Hopefully next week that will drop after a few workouts! Still have to be careful with the cardio stuff that I don't trigger asthma attack but I'll start back easy again - especially on the bike. It's weird, in the pool and swimming I don't have any problems with breathing but on the bike or running or anything outdoor I am having problems. I've never had allergies before so not sure why they would show up now.
Still off the cigarettes (and plan to be forever lol). But they've come back to bite me in the I think with this dose and lingering asthma symptoms.
Looking forward to catching up with everyone again. Missed you all!

Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
gosh, busy you.I had asthma show up out of nowhere also a few years back.I think I had not quite quit smoking at that point, though I DID quit shortly thereafter.Been over 2.5 years now & I can't even fathom that I used to participate in such a disgusting smelly habit
I still use inhalers, so I can achieve the most productive cardio possible.Glad you are on the mend & its GREAT to have you back

Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
Oh thanks Bonnie! Yeah I reckon I should have just done the weights and left the swim till the next day lol. Not to worry. Am going to gym again this evening (still feeling stiff from Wednesday) and am planning on doing some cycling to warm up and loosen out the leg muscles and then go up and do some weights.
It was hilarious on Wednesday night the shaking. I've had jelly legs before but I was literally wobbling down the stairs to the changing rooms lol! Goes to show you how much strength etc. you lose when you don't keep it up. Ah well, I figure by the time the children are going back to school (end of August) that I'll be back to working out 5 times a week (doing really early mornings before hubby leaves for work as he's gone all day and evening most weekdays) and back fighting fit again. Can't WAIT to feel like I'm getting somewhere again!
Lovely to be back. Was moaning about missing the work outs and this place just the other day!
Onwards and upwards

Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
hey all! Had an awesome swim this morning! Got up early and went down to the pool and had a lane to myself. Did some great times and more importantly FELT GOOD. cough seems to be subsiding and asthma symptoms getting better but any exercise other than swimming (which I go hard at so I'm confused about this next bit) and weight lifting, I crumble - breathing gets REALLY bad and it takes hours to get breath back and I'm sucking back on the inhalor lots.
I'm going to the doctor today. Not sure if I've left myself with chronic bronchitis and asthma after the years of smoking. I know there's no cure but it can be managed and I just HAVE to be able to cycle and run - it's something I want to do and right now I'm not, and it's soul destroying. Yes I know I made choice to smoke (stupid) and I have to live with the consequences but it's only now a few months later that I'm really feeling/seeing the consequences of it.
some hours later......
Well 100euro later I now have two inhalors to take daily (one corticosteroid and the other is salbutamol) for a month to see if things improve. Hopefully.
I am hoping to get to the gym tonight for a strength session.Just waiting to see what time husband comes home at first. I hope he's early. I'd prefer to go to the gym then do it here - makes me feel like I get some me time. Summer's are always a challenge with the munchkins 24-7!!!
Weighed in at 169lbs today - 2 lbs gone of the 3 I'd gained over the last few weeks. Hopefully back on track now and the meds will see some improvement. Also practising breathing techniques as well in the hope of improving things - if anyone has anymore tips on breathing exercises etc. would love to hear them!
Onwards and upwards folks.

I know it is hard right now, but hang in there Noosk! You've come a long way, and made such improvements in your health, something to be very proud of!Noosk wrote:I just HAVE to be able to cycle and run - it's something I want to do and right now I'm not, and it's soul destroying.
Woo HOO!!!! awesome...but I think I may have found your 2 lbs.....lol!Noosk wrote:Weighed in at 169lbs today - 2 lbs gone of the 3 I'd gained over the last few weeks

Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
The main thing is not to let what's happened put you off. It might suck having to use two inhalers for your breathing problems, but as long as you don't get discouraged from your activities, that's what counts.
You've tried hard for months now and you can be proud of that, so look on this as a potentially persistant issue, that shouldn't badly affect what you are capable of doing
.
Touchwood, your problem might correct itself over the next 4 weeks or so.
Chin up and kepe pushing yeah

Re: Noosk's Workout Journal
I hope your situation corrects itself, though it really isn't so big of a deal using inhalers, I've been using mine for about 2 years now.
