Hi...New and Need Motivation!

Post by hmajor02 »

Hello,

name is Heather and I just gave birth to first child two months ago. I found out last week that husband is diabetic and finally have an excuse to diet! However, it's extremely hard for me and I also don't want to cut calories too much because I am breastfeeding. I want to lose the weight I gained during pregnancy without depriving darling daughter. Dieting is also very hard for me because I am completely ADDICTED to food. I love it! So, I absolutely need help staying motivated from people who are going through the same thing :) Thanks for any thoughts or advice.

Since you are worried about not getting enough calories, maybe you should just try and clean up you diet for now. I don't know how "dirty" it is, but for example, replace cookies with fruit or potato chips with peanuts. I think that sometimes changing the kind of calories you eat can result in good weight loss. Your husband being diabetic should be a real motivator to keeping the junk out of the house. Keeping nasty food out of the kitchen will prevent both of you from eating it.

At this point I wouldn't worry about going on a "diet" but as JillB suggested instead just look at cleaning up your diet. Don't deprive yourself, just make healthier choices. You can start by cleaning ALL the crap out of your house... Cookies, candy, chips, pastries, sugary cereals, white flours, frozen dinners, boxed dinners... all this should GO! Replace with whole grains, fruits, veggies, nuts, lean meats, eggs, low fat dairy, and legumes. This should be done both for your husband and daughter and for yourself. Its not fair for your husband to have to be surrounded by those foods since and I'm assuming you want to raise your daughter in a healthy environment so that she can grow up knowing what it means to eat healthy.

As for you being addicted to food... thats perfectly fine. Its simply a matter of choosing clean healthy foods instead of sugary, fried, or processed foods.

Also, what are you currently doing for exercise?

Be proud of yourself. This is a step towards having a better lie for you and a better upbringing for your Daughter too, because she will have a good female rolemodel to look up to.

So just remember what you are worth as a person and remember there's a lot more going on on a journey like this, than whther you lose a few inches or not. good things that can happen, that you won't see but will help you to potentially live longer. Remember the bigger picture, don't let yourself feel bad when you make mistakes, just pick yourself up, admit you're human and continue as normal.

You have a great chance here to change things for yourself, so be patient, be strong and GOOD LUCK. You CAN and I'm sure WILL do this and do it well :).
