WOW.. you are donig a GREAT job... Keep it up.
Just make sure, do intervals at your own pace... don't rush it if you haven't done it before.
Anyways, keep up the good job. :D

I did an attempt at doing intervals today and I about killed myself. I felt like I was completely out of steam for the second mile. The weird thing is that second mile was faster than ususal second mile.

thats cool Edgar! according to your stats, your best pace was a 9:18 min. mile - thats awesome! And yes, it should feel like it is about to kill you - but that is what builds your speed and endurance.
I don't think the heart rate stats are right, surely your heart rate was higher than 72 bpm? It should have been about pounding out of your chest after each interval.
Good job! Incorporating that at least once a week into your schedule should help with increasing the speed of your avg. mile pace.

I had mentioned the HR accuracy once in another post and almost did in this one. I may toss the HR monitor altogether, :(

I decided today that since I was going on a group run after work I would have a nice breakfast. I thought cereal would be nice. After setting up laptop at work I go downstairs to the cafeteria. And, what do they they have in the way of cereal? Nothing but sugary crap, Frosted Flakes and the like. I don't want their greezy eggs and sauage. So, I had to go back up to desk and eat a granola bar. Grrrrrrr.

I did group work this evening. I must be getting sick, because I am really getting addicted to running. I am thinking it is worse than heroin. Is there a 12 step program for runners? :?

Ah, a rest day :) . I am really feeling good about myself lately. Now, with improved health and added energy, I have so many more options. I was at Borders bookstore the other day to pick up a book to read. On the way to the checkout counter I happened to stop to browse the magazine racks. I spotted a backpacking magazine and thought to myself, "Hey, I can do that kind of stuff now". It was not a matter of if I can get in shape I can do that. I bought the magazine.

I am so glad you found something that motivates you, makes you feel good about yourself and your weight loss. I think the "addiction" may lie in the feeling that you get from exercise - running. It has given you renewed confidence in your body and hope for the future. Like you said, you are beginning to see your life in a different way, there are endless opportunities for you that you didn't have before, and that can certainly be an addictive thing! Backpacking is a great example. I have a friend ( running mentor I mentioned in thread) that didn't start running or exercising at all until he was in his mid forties, overweight, smoking a pack a day, and he turned his life around. Not only did he run races of all distances, but every year he went on a backpacking trip to the Appalachian Trail. And he would backpack for miles, then set up camp and the next day, begin again - he said it was the greatest thing (next to running  ) he ever decided to do. So, yes! the world is opening up for you in so many ways, just by getting healthy and redefining the body that has been stopping you from being the person you needed and/or wanted to be. Go for it Edgar!!!

Belief is key to what you want. If you have it and can harness it, so much more the better.

You're ready now to start moving on to things you think you can do :).

I have not logged anything in journal for a few days so it is time to catch up. On weigh in Sunday I only lost one pound from the previous week, but I guess that how it sometimes goes. Weighing in at 244 though did put me past the halfway point to goal of 190. So, its 54 pounds down and 54 more to go. Starting Sunday I ran into a new challenge: HEAT!!!!!. It was 90 degrees Sunday when I ran and it I felt like did on the first workout back in Arpril. The thermometer says it was not as hot today, but it didn't feel any better. I tried to run intervals, but I was running out of gas during the second mile. 5k is on August 7th so I better get used to running in the heat. I am carrying a water bottle with me and I think I am pouring more water on head then in mouth.

The humidity has been brutal this weekend and it doesn't sound like it's going to get any better this week - when it is this humid it doesn't matter what the temperature is, it's is just grueling :?

I weighed at 241 lbs today, so 3 pounds lost for the week. I have 4 weeks until 5K and I am thinking I should be able to shed another 10 lbs by then. I'm recovering from these runs faster. Or, I should really say I dont need much recovery in the first place the last couple weeks. The heat was not too bad today either.

I have about 2 1/2 months to go before Vegas trip and I am thinking I will begin to be looking good by then. At least good for me. I may be nuts but, I am going to go skydiving when I am there. Its one of those things I can do now.

End of Ramble.

You're not nuts :D You should definitely do it!!!! I had skydiving license for several years and I can tell you, there is NOTHING in the world like it :D first two jumps were tandem and I got addicted so I got license - unfortunately it has been several years since last jump, but it is definitely goal to get back into it. And I always tell people, if there is even a little part of you that wants to try it, then DO IT!! I'm excited for you :D
