question about running and weight.

Post by rockchick_82808 »

i was talking to friend about how weight seems to only continue to rise. I'm still in the same dress size tho-. a couple things he think it is maybe muscle increase and then something i've never heard before. water weight increase. he said when u workout ur body retains more water to keep you from becoming dehydrated. id like to know if this is true because i noticed since i have been running weight has gone up. is that what it could be is water? eating habits have not changed so i dont understand.

Water retention can be caused by certain things.

Too much Salt.

Supplements like Creatine.

possibly consuming too much Water.

Not sure about what your friend says, becasue you'd use water to sweat, plus the Oxygen molecules could possibly be scavenged to make ATP, the energy source that helps muscles move, also the oxygen could help to reduce Lactic Acid production, a process where the end product of Glycogen and Glucose breakdown, (Pyruvate), has insufficient Oxygen to be used in other ways.

It would depend on how you hydrate as well, as the body could dehydrate more if you drank insufficient water for the bodies needs, because exercise will create a higher thermogenic environment in most cases.

Muscle could be the reason for stagnating weight, coupled with Fat loss. You might need a slight tweak in your diet as well.

The muscle aspect would be evident, if you have gained any increase in lifting lately, even a couple of reps on most things. This would obviously prove that was happening.

You might also have plateaued, so you may find that given a little more time, the body will get over it. Sometimes it could even be slight things, like more sweating from increased temperatures, a few nights of better sleep and physical recovery, perhaps a few extra calories here and there, just becasue most people don't portion count to the exact gram and calorie.

So little simple things may help you get over it, if you had plateaued.

Exercise related water retention is more common for resistance training. The micro tears that occur result in a temporary edema around rebuilding muscle tissue. This goes away within 48 hours. Like BossMan said salt intake and supplements can also affect water retention. Its pretty common for women to gain or not lose weight for the first 4-6 weeks after starting an exercise program, after this fat loss is greater than any muscle gain and the scale will start to go down. At some point your body will adjust to the fat loss and release held water. You can try green tea as a natural diuretic.

If your inches are going down despite what the scale says you're on the right track.

So funny I am reading this because I have kinda been experiencing the same thing!!! I took off from working out for 2 weeks to go on vacation. I pretty much ate whatever I wanted and when I got home and back to the gym I weighed in. I only gained a lb and was happy with that. So I resumed workouts and diet and drank more water. Weird but weight is going up!! I gained another 2 lbs or so!! I would not be concerned with this except that is definetly more poochy than before I resumed. I am really confused!!! :?

Ok, ladies then I am not going crazy, huh? I will just keep eating clean and working out and hopefully the weight will come off again? I hope I didn't mess things up for myself too bad. I am really bummed since I don't feel like is nearly as flat as it was before I went on vacation. :(

Don't be pretty sure, be absolutely sure. If you have any doubts, even 1% about anything classed as a supplement, do some thorough research. Forum reviews, unbiased reviews by athletes, or independant scientists with no stated afiliation to a company.

Don't chance something like that. You might get some desirable effects, but you might also get something happening you didn't bargain for, that doesn't necessarily cause immediate problems, but may result in a problem at some point, from an internal knock-on effect, coupled with the body perfoming normal actions.

Plus if hubby hadn't got an issue that doesn't exclude you from doing so. It depends on what's in it, how your body responds to it and if any content conflicts with something in your diet, or possible alcohol, other supplement or medicine intake as well. Maybe even caffeine intake, but I'm not sure about that.

The worst thing would be to have a really healthy lifestyle and a healthy body, consume a product for some innocuous problem, then get an unwanted effect on the Stomach, Kidneys, Liver etc, or something like that.

It's your body misses, so don't take any risks. Don't ever trust a supplement / product in any circumstances, unless you are certain it's meritworthy, the right thing for your situation, not a rip off, the ingredients cannot harm you in any situation / way and it contains good amounts of content, that will produce the desired effect.

You owe yourself that time spent googling, because an hour of googling is better than say a few hours or days or even weeks, of stomach cramps, nausea, headaches, spasms, kidney pains, or other mild or serious issues.

:).
