New here

Post by spittingwisdom »

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and wanted to share story so far to say hi and get some input as well!

I've been slightly overweight all of life, but it got to be more of a problem in 20's. Finally, after I gained 50 lbs with son, I got to the tipping point. After having son 5 years ago, I went on a very strict diet program and lost from 216lbs to 160. I went from a size 16 to a size 10/12. I've more or less kept it off over the last couple of years and now weigh 165 and am a size 12. Although I'm happy with progress in the past, I've been stagnant for quite a while now. However, for some reason I can't seem to stay on a diet and exercise program, and I'm finding it harder to lose weight now that I don't weigh as much. I'm not as motivated as I was before, even though there are times that I'm very unhappy with how I look in clothes (and especially bathing suits). I've hit this point of complacency with waves of discontent, but at core I really would love to look fit and slim.

I'm hoping that this will help - that maybe I'll meet others who have been where I am now, and that I can get some advice or insight.

Thanks :)

Hi there,

Great job on the success you've had so far.

As for you not being motivated and not being able to stick to a diet and workout program... A couple of things come to mind with this:

A) You don't want to stick to the diet and exercise program badly enough to commit
B) The diet and exercise program you've been trying isn't possible to maintain for an extended amount of time.

If you truly want to lose weight and make the necessary changes then you will find a way to do so... If you dont truly want to lose weight then you most likely won't make the necessary changes. :D

As for advice... What are you currently doing for diet and exercise? Show us what youre doing and we'd be happy to make suggestions.

Hey,
Thanks!

The issue I've run into in the recent past with losing weight is maintaining diet plan. Most recently I was simply watching calories, keeping daily intake under 1400. However, honestly, I was hungry all the time, and it was really hard to stay with it. I don't do well with being hungry.

One thing is that I'm treading in all new territory. I'm at slimmest since I was a kid, and I feel a little lost as to what I'd really have to do to shed off the last 20 or so lbs. In mind I know what science says, but for some reason I don't BELIEVE that if I do the diet thing, that it will work.

As far as exercise, I've kind of unfocused as well. Sometimes I lift weights, sometimes I do cardio. I hear all sorts of things from different people about what the "right" thing to do to lose the weight.

Bottom line is that I'm definitely unfocused right now. I need to know exactly what I should do that WILL work.

Thanks for your input.

Hi there,

You really shouldn't feel overly hungry while on a diet. If you are it most likely means that youre not getting enough calories and/or youre not getting the proper amounts of carbs/proteins/healthy fats. Why don't you post an example of your typical daily diet so we can take a look and offere suggestions.

For your workout... a combination of weights and cardio is ideal (this might be why you're confused, you need a little of both). Post an example of a typical week of your workouts so suggestions can be made there as well.

This diet and exercise stuff can definitely be confusing and when something is confusing it usually quickly becomes frustrating. There is so much conflicting information out there when it comes to the best diet and exercise program that it is understandable that you're unfocused. In opinion, the BEST plan out there is a combination of clean healthy foods, weights, and cardio. As I said, show us what you're currently doing and we'll go from there to build a plan that works around your current situation and goals.
