Hello everyone,
I've recently been diagnosed with costochondritis (condition where cartilage becomes inflammed between ribs) and was prescribed Naproxen which is an anti-inflammatory.I can longer work chest at the moment and have considered just completely stopping the cut cycle so I dont lose any mass although im pretty sure i've already done so, but at this point chest has hurt for over 2 months now and is very SLOWLY getting better. I was wondering though if this will hinder cut (if I decide to continue) at all because i've been told and read that NSAID's can interfere with protein synthesis. Terrible timing to get an injury, but anyways does anyone have any input/suggestions on wether this NSAID that im taking will interfere with cut?
Thanks for the help!

You're lucky the Costochondritis is recovering, as I believe in some cases it's chronic, so some people can end up with a permanantly inflamed ribcage.
As you have a cartilage problem, try increasing supplemental Vitamin C. C helps for one thing to produce cartilage in the body. 500mg's 1x a day would be good for starters, perhaps going ot 2x 500mg's. If you find a problem with it, try buffered.
You could also try Hyaluronic Acid, as that's a component of Cartilage too. As does a supplement called Cartazyne.
Also things like Onions, Apple, Peppers, (Quercetin), Pineapple, (Bromelain), act as anti-inflammatory foods. Though both of those substances are available supplementally if needs be.
As you're just taking a plain old NSAID, I doubt it would interfere with the medications "mechanism of action", but if needs be consult a site like "Rxlist", to be on the safe side, just to see if your particular NSAID may carry any containdications, relating to things like Suppplements, Alcohol, Grapefruit or the juice and possibly Caffeine. I doubt it, but you never know.

To Les - Yes Naproxen is Aleve just usually comes in higher doses. Im taking 500mg Naproxen (which is kind of a lower dose) and I believe Aleve comes in 200mg, but normally Aleve you take 2 pills versus Naproxens 1 so it comes out to 500mg to 400mg which isn't a big difference.
To BossMan - Yea doctor told me to take it easy, and to come back in a few more weeks if the pain doesnt get completely better because I may have to seek a physical therapists help in returning back to old training regimen. For now i've been sticking to pushups and they havent been to bad. I only do a few sets and end up doing around 50 pushups total because I don't wanna over do it I just want to stimulate the pecs.
Thanks for the responses!
