Thanks, everyone, for the support. I still have to jump online and off until schedule lightens up June 3d.

I did strength training today and I really felt great during the workout and after. For some reason I had a high energy level today.

Well. today I weighed in at 263 so I have lost 15lbs since starting at the gym on Apr 11. I really started at 298lbs in Jan. So, I have lost 35lbs total. I am going to have to buy clothes this weekend. I am going to buy as little as possible since I will have to buy clothes again in a few months. :)

Rest day today. I went shopping after work and bought a pair of Levi's and a pait of Dockers. I am finally down a size. I'm a 40 waist instead of a 42. I also bought one shirt, an XL instead of a 2XL. Yeah I still need to go down, but really feel good about it. Next step is the get rid of the leading 4 in the waist size and get to rid of the X in front of the L. I'm happy as a clam today.

That's awesome Edgar! You are making good steady progress. :D Maybe you should just buy a belt, cause the way you are going down in waist sizes, no doubt those 40's will be falling off of you in no time. :D

Yes it sounds as though you are not destined to stay in the 40's waist zone for long, congrats :)

Good work man. You CAN be proud of yourself, because you prove that age is no barrier to change. Some mature people, faced with some kind of health inadequacies, would think living like you are doing, is something you'd need to start doing earlier and may not even bother, just muddle on through, hoping not to get worse.

You realised change was needed and when certain things you do are engrained for years, to change like you have, is quite hard for sure, because you've emotionally railroaded yourself into having to do it, as opposed to just deciding to do it and starting off with some kind of buzz or elation about what you're getting into.

So kudos is earned, becasue you've gone past the 4 week dropout point and you've proven a lot to others, but importantly yourself and I think you're not just losing some size, but I think you're growing emotionally and mentally as well as you learn more about your own abilities.

You shouldn't have any problems continuing to achieve at this, because you're going about it in the right way(s).

I did cadio today. I am sitting here at the computer with an icepack on knee. The knee is screaming and aching, but it will get over it. I feel great. I tried to do something different today. I set for treadmill for a 3 mile run. The problem being the last two 10ths of a mile I sprinted as fast as I could. I expecting the treadmill to automatically slow down into cool down mode when I crossed the 3 mile mark. It didn't and I had to hit to emergency stop. That put me at a dead stop with heart pumping like crazy. I quickly as I could got the treadmill going at a moderate pace so I could gradually cool down. The problem is now I don't know time for the run. I think I came in somewhere about 42 minutes which is a terrible time, but I worked hard to get where I am and I will improve. I am obviously going to be the slow guy when I start the 5K training course on the 3rd. I will most likely be carrying alot less weight around when I finish the course 10 weeks later. but, when I resign for the next 10 week course after that I won't be so slow.

I went to niece's HS graduation yesterday. Neither sister nor 2 niece's had seen me since I began working on health. sister told me she was shocked when she saw me and told me really look younger now. I took that as a compliment :D

There's being slow and being a finisher.

If you can cross that line when others around you have fallen, or pulled out at the last minute for no reasons of susbtance, you are someone that can be proud of what you achieve.

Whatever you do, don't stop believing in yourself or believing you are going to be neither here nor there, becasue the neither here nor thinker, probably often finishes P bottom 20-30%.

The I am amazing thinker can potentially place nother 10-20% further up the field. You've got time on your side anyway, so just keep going and you'll be where you want to be at soon enough no doubt.

The adage slow & steady wins the race, whether that race is a life long one of being healthy or crossing a finish line, all that matters is your commitment & the way you feel about yourself, keep going :)

Strength training today. The work felt so easy today I almost feel guilty. I did not cut back on workout, I have just gotten used to it. I will have to pick it up a notch in a reasonable way.

Did cardio workout this morning. I will have to miss 2 workouts over the next week. I will be on call 24 hours a day for work until the 2nd of June. I will be able to workout next monday and Tuesday because I will be able to do a morning workout those 2 days, but that is it. There is no way to avoid it. I start 5K training on the 3rd. After the 2nd I can go back to normal 4 days a week workout schedule.

Looks like I am only going to miss one workout session since I was able to get a workout in Thursday. I did cardio this morning. I ran 3.07 miles on the treadmill in 45 minutes. I then took a short break and then did a half hour brisk walk on the treadmill. One thing that did happen though was that hands really swelled up during the walk. I could not even make a fist. I have now been home for half an hour and the swelling has gone down.

Not sure why that happened, unless your body was reacting to a Cardio impact, that was a little too much for it to handle at the current time.

Perhaps a reaction to it being overtaxed in some way.

Here is an interesting article on swelling hands when walking that might give you some insight as to why your hands are swelling after your treadmill walk.

Hope this helps. :)

Not things I would have considered automatically, but when reading that it makes sense. particualrly in relation to the Salt and restricted circulation via things on the Hands or fingers.
