i was always told you should drink 64oz a day.
today when i was reading a success story the girl said she took her weight and divided it in half to determine the amount of water she should drink.
is there any right way as to how much you should have?
i have for a long time been a water drinker so 64oz a day is do-able.
how many onces of water should i drink?

Ahh the 2 litres of water a day mythology.
Basically, you can technically eat what you need per day, if you're canny enough.
American scientists discovered in the 50's, you needed to replace around 2-2.5 litres of water a day. This was then generally misconstrued as needing to be drunk when it isn't. Animal and plant matter contain water. I don't know the water content of many food sources, but as examples, Meat is about 65%, Fish around 75%.
What you're basically doing is perfectly fine, as more Water intake above what is obtainable from food is okay as long as you don't go nutso. I would suggest you needn't go above 4 large glasses a day really. You can do, but that should be more than enough really.
Bearing in mind that having good water intake, helps to flush out things like toxins and Kidney Stones if you have them. Also increasing water stores will allow you to better remove Uric Acid, created from things like Nitrogen in saturated Fats and Methylxanthine, Xanthine sources ,(Caffeine, Theophylline, Theobromine), like Tea, Coffee, Kola Nuts, Guarana, Chocolate etc etc, so the extra stored water will help to potentially reduce Gout risk, providing you don't over consume Proteins, Red Meat, Saturates and the aforementioned Methylxanthine sources as well, otherwise good water intake will do little to relieve a potential Gout risk.
However bear in mind that if you drank a lot of daily water, you can increase the amount of activity needed from the Kidneys and that might in the long-term, theoretically wear them out quicker, causing potential reduction of function in older age.
Don't quote me on that last paragraph, I'm speaking from a common sense logic approach. So having added water from liquid sources, is acceptable, but you don't need to be a heavy drinker of water I think.

Consider if you are in a humid climate you will need to up your fluid intake to prevent heat related issues. If you are exercising outdoors and the humidity is up drink 6oz every 15 minutes. Also, even slight dehydration over time can lead to kidney stones.
