Do I have to rest in between weight lifting?
I have just started workout routine. I was made aware that I need to let muscles rest and work different ones everyday. How long are you supposed to let them rest for? I have been doing lower part of body every other day, and the upper part every other day. Will this be fine? being female I don't want to bulk up just tone of course

Hey there,
Short answer is Yes!
When you do resistance excercise with weights you are 'breaking down' your muscle fibres by exercise. You need the time in between for your muscles to heal. Generally the best advice is usually to do resistance one day and cardio the next (if you wanna workout every day that is) cardio can be anything from running rowing that kind of thing to favourite - kick boxing & MMA. Try a total body workout for your weights 3 - 4 times a week then mix up some cardio exercise on your days 'off'.
Hope it helps and keep grapplin!

You should rest your muscels for 48 hours (1day) before working them again. So if your doing a upper/lower split like you are doing your doing it right.
You wont bulk up unless you eat enough to bulk up regardless of how much you lift weights.

48 hours 1 day? thats 2 dude!,
you should give yourself 48-72 hours before working the muscle again.. buuttt that is also depends on the amount of weight/stress you put on your muscles,
example - if i curl 5lbs, should i wait 3 days to do it again? no... if i curl 55lbs db's should i wait? yes
just to throw this out there doll, there is no "tone" i dont care what fitness show, super star you may watch on tv.. or what you may read
it takes men years to put on huge amounts of bulk.. and thats pushing weight, you will never ever lift in your life
you want to "tone" gear a proper diet, do the cardio to shed the fat, lift moderately heavy weight to build the muscle up,
tone is basically low fat, with smaller built muscles..

your right 48 hours is 2 days.
If you work a muscle group say a 6 pm one day then skip a day and work it at 6pm the next day thats 48 hours but only 1 complete day of rest.
follow?

Every other day should work pretty well. As someone else mentioned, you should be able to train a muscle about every 2-3 days. If you are getting progressively stronger its a good sign you have given the muscle adequate recovery.
Don't worry about getting "bulky"--it just won't happen for 99% of the women that train naturally. The "she-males" you see look that way because of steroids, which is why their voices sound like Barry White.

Harsh, but yes with the voice changes it's true. A side effect of dosing strong ones. Weaker ones with small doses, carry less changes to the fermale physiology.Kevsworld wrote: The "she-males" you see look that way because of steroids, which is why their voices sound like Barry White.
